tour de force of bad reasoning
Revisado: 04-18-23
example: Makes great hay of there being better genetic ways to prevent malaria... though it is a very simple determination what is better yet when countering straw men the world is suddenly very complex. Reminder, he is saying that different mutations work better in the hygienic modern world ignoring any down sides we do not know of because it didn't happen and says this points to the limits of evolution. He might be right but how would one know?
It still comes back to the complex world we live in and the complex ways we life forms deal with it... are they complex because life started in and adapted to need this environment or because it is preplanned by someone way more complex? I didn't find anything here convincing one way or another, just lots of smoke.

I have not noticed any errors in the podcast, glaring or otherwise. I wish the negative reviewer would cite examples or notify the podcast so they can retract anything that is actually wrong.

Synopsis of studies
Revisado: 01-08-21
Well reasoned presentation of studies applicable to everyday life and their strengths and faults. Unfortunately most of the results and much of the analysis I have heard before, so if you read a lot of this type of book or listen to a lot of podcasts like Freakonomics and You are not so Smart there will be little that is new to you. For me it was just that riding a bike in traffic is much less dangerous than one would think.
The author did a great interview on the SGEM (Skeptics Guide to Emergency Medicine).

Historia
In 1965, the US government helped the Indonesian military kill approximately one million innocent civilians. This was one of the most important turning points of the 20th century, eliminating the largest communist party outside China and the Soviet Union and inspiring copycat terror programs in faraway countries like Brazil and Chile. But these events remain widely overlooked, precisely because the CIA's secret interventions were so successful.

It's your job to see them and to understand them, because that's how you know when threats exist. To identify threats, you're infiltrating an enemy's organization. You're figuring out who is making decisions. And who isn't. You're collecting intelligence on what they know. And what they don't know. You're figuring out their plans.

keen sense of the obvious
Revisado: 01-12-20
might be insightful if you are in kindergarten. insights like "games" are played over people places and/or things. It is not even right since generally the "games" he lists were over power/ control.
written in a stream of thought style like some of Trump or Palin's speeches; understandable, but something I find grating. I wonder if this is to puff up the word count of a little book or just the author's style.

Historia
In this witty and insightful guidebook, the author compares sea otters to humans, as he draws lessons on happiness and well-being from these furry little rodents. Otters may just be lowly rodents, unaware of such human pursuits as philosophy, technology, or science. However, their simple lives, which they dedicate to family, and predicate upon affection and love, greatly elevate their stature among God's creations.

simple rules for a complex life:
Marry and never complain no matter what she does.
Never look at another woman if you can help it and apologize if you do.
Have as many kids as possible.
Make sure your kids are indoctrinated in all of your political and religious beliefs.
Does not sound like happiness to me and does not align with my values, but if you think that the above is good advice the book will be reassuring though there is not much more to it.

Shame can take on many forms. It hides in the shadows of the most successful, confident and high-achieving woman who struggles with balancing her work and children, as well as in the heart of the broken, abused and downtrodden woman who has been told that she will never amount to anything. Shame hides in plain sight and can hold us back in ways we do not realize. But Christine Caine wants listeners to know something: We can all be free.
