Selena Murphy is commuting home on the train when she strikes up a conversation with a beautiful stranger in the next seat. The woman introduces herself as Martha and soon confesses that she’s been stuck in an affair with her boss. Selena, in turn, confesses that she suspects her husband is sleeping with the nanny. When the train arrives at Selena’s station, the two women part ways, presumably never to meet again.

You hate men, we get it
Revisado: 08-31-24
All men are evil. Stated over and over for hundreds of page. We get it. Write a book about evil white men and you don’t have to worry about the story, the book will sell. The End

Extremely implausible, cliche, unnecessarily political.

If I had a middle grade child turn this book in for a creative writing class at a left coast public school I would give her a C. The only reason why I would not fail the student is because they stayed off TikTok long enough to put together enough words for an entire book.

Historia
What if I told you that my father is a vicious psychopath who created an entire network of criminals just to hunt down, terrorize, and kill my mother? What if I told you my mother and I have been running from him since I was 13-years-old, and no one will help us?

This book is a serious gut punch. I hate the fact that something like this exists. You will not be able to unread this book. Stay away if you have any unresolved childhood trauma.

Cute story
Revisado: 01-17-23
Found story little cartoonish and unrealistic. Some(dude) really peed in the author’s tea. She seemed to have some anger issues to resolve. Take every ideology that is popular in the mainstream media and create a conspiracy then write a novel. Reading this reminded me of watching cable news. Felt icky and gross when I wasn’t rolling my eyes. Writing was not too horrible if you ignore the preaching.

Historia
Every human life is supposed to be important. Everyone should matter. But that’s not the case in the cutthroat TV news-rating world where Clare Carlson works. Sex, money, and power sell. Only murder victims of the right social strata are considered worth covering. Not the murder of a “nobody”. So, when the battered body of a homeless woman named Dora Gayle is found on the streets of New York City, her murder barely gets a mention in the media. But Clare's TV news director, who still has a reporter’s instincts, decides to dig deeper into the seemingly meaningless death.

Decent book with some feedback.
Revisado: 02-18-20
I enjoyed this book with a few caveats. The story was a little contrived. I understand reading drama however the book seemed to throw in a few too many twists and red herons taking away from a decent concept.
I started to lose count on the number of twists thinking the book could have ended much earlier however had it ended earlier I might have felt dissatisfied.
The plot needed a little more shoring up as it became a little unbelievable how the protagonist arrived at her conclusions and ultimately solving the mystery (s).
The narrator seemed to be acting out a different genre. She made the characters sound whiney at times, something I might expect from middle grade fiction.
Improving the plot and focusing on a few twists as opposed to throwing everything into this one book and having the actor assume an adult fiction narration would offer 3 suggested improvements.

Historia
Born to survivalists in the mountains of Idaho, Tara Westover was seventeen the first time she set foot in a classroom. Her family was so isolated from mainstream society that there was no one to ensure the children received an education, and no one to intervene when one of Tara’s older brothers became violent. When another brother got himself into college, Tara decided to try a new kind of life. Her quest for knowledge transformed her, taking her over oceans and across continents, to Harvard and to Cambridge University.

Why is this a best seller?
Revisado: 01-04-19
Story seems written by someone seeking attention. Halfway through the book I had to Google the author as I wanted the find the end of the story to see if finishing the book was worth my time. Story seemed inconsistent with reality. Sent the book back to receive a refund. Unsure if author was telling the truth however had the uneasy feeling of being mislead. Felt as though payment for a story as somewhat in question should be avoided. Even if real to life 7 chapters in felt myself finding it hard to care as I became disenchanted with the drone of the book. My apologies if the story is consistent and factual as not trying to judge just offering my impression. Wondering why this was a best seller?
