A VOICE FOR THE AGES!
Revisado: 03-21-24
James Earl Jones has been blessed with very resonant and distinct vocal abilities - he could read the phone book and people would stop to listen! I believe his voice and delivery add weight to the material he is reading, and since this is the Bible...it brings it all to life. I do so wish there was an edition of the Old Testament done in his voice - don't need all the music - his voice would be totally sufficient!

Historia
In the grand storytelling style that is his signature, James Michener sweeps us back through time to the very beginnings of the Jewish faith, thousands of years ago. Through the predecessors of four modern men and women, we experience the entire colorful history of the Jews, including the life of the early Hebrews and their persecutions, the impact of Christianity, the Crusades, and the Spanish Inquisition, all the way to the founding of present-day Israel and the Middle East conflict.

A MESMERIZING STORY
Revisado: 03-18-21
My review is prejudiced. I love Michener books; I love history, especially religious history; and I love to listen to a deep male voice that can actually pronounce the words! This narration allows the information being imparted to be processed and there is a LOT OF INFORMATION! For the people who have dissed the narrator, I suggest you listen to Pride and Prejudice, narrated by Alison Larkin - THAT is a truly awful narration and it is the one that taught me to actually listen to the narrator before I purchased the book. If The Source narrator had added the many inflections of the multitude of characters, it would have been an insufferable 54 hours! Truly enjoying this book!!

Historia
Jane Austen's most famous novel, Pride and Prejudice is brought to sparkling new life in this "wonderful, unforgettable" recording from AudioFile Earphones award-winning narrator Alison Larkin. Always a witty and original voice, Alison Larkin follows her narration of Pride and Prejudice with songs from Regency England, to give the listener a sense of what after dinner family entertainment might have sounded like in Jane Austen's time.

This narrator is not for me

I absolutely love this book, but not as it is read by this narrator - I stayed through a whole chapter, but that was it!

ROBBED!
Revisado: 03-12-20
I was SO LOOKING FORWARD to eventually seeing this book come out on Audible. When it did, I immediately bought it and with great expectations took it to work with me. What a joke! As I sat working and listening, I kept having to stop and go back a chapter or two, because I thought I must have missed this part or that part - but NOPE, I did not miss it. THE BOOK WAS JUST MISSING HUGE CHUNKS OF DIFFERENT CHAPTERS!!! I have read the hardback book about 10 times; I love Colleen McCullough's books and this is one of my favorites! TO HAVE IT MASSACRED THIS WAY IS BEYOND WRONG! If I wanted half of the book cut out, I would go ask Readers Digest to send me a condensed version, or I could just go to my bookshelf and start randomly ripping out sections of each book!
I will not purchase any more books from Audible, until I can verify that the entire book is there!

Historia
Greece in the age of heroes. Patroclus, an awkward young prince, has been exiled to the kingdom of Phthia to be raised in the shadow of King Peleus and his golden son, Achilles. “The best of all the Greeks”—strong, beautiful, and the child of a goddess—Achilles is everything the shamed Patroclus is not. Yet despite their differences, the boys become steadfast companions. Their bond deepens as they grow into young men and become skilled in the arts of war and medicine—much to the displeasure and the fury of Achilles’ mother, Thetis, a cruel sea goddess with a hatred of mortals.
