Reminiscences Of A Ranger is concidered a "classic" personal account of early American California. Originally published in 1881 and still available in print today, the author, Horace Bell, is often quoted in other histories directly from this book. Bell's account of his experiances in Los Angeles and environs are highly entertaining, and enteresting. It's hard to picture Bell's wide open Southern California of the 1850s, compaired to today's built up So Cal
I've read the original book previously, but wanted an Audiobook to listen to while driving/working. I ordered this version read by Andre Stojka, because it was listed as "unabridged". By the 2nd Chapter I realised that the narration didn't sound correct. Upon getting out my printed copy, and reading along as Stojka narrates the book, I found out that words were left out, or changed, so as not to offend today's "Woke"!!! This Audiobook has been Abridged and Edited! It is not as described on Audible/Amazon. It is not the "classic account" as written by Horace Bell that has been available to readers since 1881.
We are losing our "history", and this Audiobook is another example of today's "Nannies" telling Adults what they can and can't read, see, or hear
I immediately returned this Audiobook for a refund. Audible/Amazon needs to change the description for this Audiobook to Abridged & Edited

Historical fact-based fiction about the famous spy who played a key role in Stonewall Jackson's Valley Campaign. This narrative takes place between July 1861 and July 1862 and is the first in a series about the Confederate Secret Service and the women who were its most effective agents. Un-necessary "Porno Scenes"
Revisado: 08-30-18
While other Reviewers had problems with the performance of the Reader, my complaint is the un-necessary "Porno Scenes" in the story. The overall story is fine from a "history" standpoint, entertaining, and keeps you interested. Then all of a sudden a "Sex Scene" is interjected in the story that breaks up what is otherwise an interesting story. We're all Adults around here and know how to "do it". We don't need it laid out in lurid detail. In Casablanca we know what Rick & Ilsa have been doing in Paris................we don't need to see it!
