The audio quality is terrible
Revisado: 07-24-24
I’ve been excited to listen to this book but the audio quality is trash. The hard “S’s” are harsh and ear piercing. I’m going to try to finish it but am very tempted to just buy the book and read it. They need to have these audiobooks professionally edited for quality assurance.

Historia
In In Order to Live, Yeonmi Park shines a light not just into the darkest corners of life in North Korea, describing the deprivation and deception she endured and which millions of North Korean people continue to endure to this day, but also onto her own most painful and difficult memories. She tells with bravery and dignity for the first time the story of how she and her mother were betrayed and sold into sexual slavery in China and forced to suffer terrible psychological and physical hardship before they finally made their way to Seoul, South Korea - and to freedom.

An inspiring heartbreak
Revisado: 12-20-23
It sounds like a story from centuries ago. An unimaginable society of cruelty, deceit, and fairytales. Having served in the US military sent to fight overseas for political leverage and money laundering, it enraged me that this is a present day reality that the world ignores and some actually enable. It is impossible to read this without a deep gratitude for even the simplest of comforts we glaze over in our day to day lives. There is a special place in hell for the Kim’s. My heart goes out to the people of North Korea as well as the upmost respect and gratitude to Yeonmi for telling her story.

A must read
Revisado: 10-08-21
There’s no greater insight into the depths of brutality we possess as human beings. As America toys with relearning the lessons of history, this book has never been more vital for us to study and god help us prevent from reoccurring. We must know what evil lies within us, have the humility to include ourselves among the guilty, and acknowledge the red flags as early as possible. Otherwise this heartbreaking story may become our own to tell one day.

For eight years, far beyond the battlefields of Vietnam and the glare of media distortions, American Green Berets fought a deadly secret war in Laos and Cambodia under the aegis of the top secret Military Assistance Command Vietnam - Studies and Observations Group, or SOG. Go deep into the jungle with five SOG warriors surrounded by 10,000 enemy troops as they stack up the dead to build a human buttress for protection. Witness a Green Beret, shot in the back four times and left for dead, who survives to fight savagely against incredible odds to complete his missions.

Painful narration
Revisado: 04-28-21
Pretty disappointed as I love the stories of SOG. But the narrator had no business reading this book. I’ll probably just buy the book to read myself.
