Historia
Imagine a London where magic is real...real, but feared. This is Eliza Braxton's London, and she has always accepted her place in it gladly. As one of the Riftborn, her magic has relegated her to the servant class, where she dutifully serves as the lady's maid in one of the most powerful households in the country. There, she uses her remarkable powers of persuasion to keep Elder Hallewell's rebellious daughter in the path to an arranged match of power and prosperity. Eliza has never questioned her loyalty...until now.

Maybe it was an accent?

I couldn't get into this audiobook because the lisp of the reader was so distracting it made it difficult for me to follow. Maybe it was a good story? I may check it out in print from the library.

will I be able to finish this?
Revisado: 10-15-21
*audible* This is a great story, if you can get past the narrator who alternately whispers and yells. Have your volume dial handy and be ready to use it a LOT. So annoying while driving, it's really a shame.

Couldn't finish this
Revisado: 06-25-21
The actress's cadence and inflection was too much for me. I found myself mocking every other sentence out loud, it was that distracting.
Seemed like a great story, too bad. Maybe I'll find the book and read it properly.

Historia
Acclaimed biographer Susan Ronald delivers a stunning account of Elizabeth I that focuses on her role in the Wars of Religion - the battle between Protestantism and Catholicism that tore Europe apart in the sixteenth century. Elizabeth’s 1558 coronation procession was met with an extravagant outpouring of love. Only 25 years old, the young queen saw herself as the nation’s Protestant savior, aiming to provide new hope, prosperity, and independence from the foreign influence that had plagued her sister Mary’s reign. Given the scars of the Reformation, Elizabeth would need all of the powers of diplomacy and tact she could summon.

Disappointing

Maybe I had it wrong, but I was looking for a story and got an historical narrative instead.
