STAY AWAY
Revisado: 10-27-24
Encourages SEXUALIZATION OF CHILDREN. While the author does make a few good points that are sincere and helpful on this topic, they are entirely negligible in comparison to the rest of the content. She views sexual intimacy as a way to validate your emotions and social standing among peers (HORRIBLE IDEA), something that begins in infancy (research that she doesn’t cite but likely comes from the HRC or the Human Rights Campaign, a LGBTQIA+ organization that indoctrinates and promulgates shoddy science and case reports that support only their sexual narrative, incidentally grooming children of all ages), and as a way to pleasure and escape from reality. She further pushes abortion on teenagers, who are obviously curious about intimacy, as a way to run away from the consequences of their actions. Imagine a 14-year-old brain that is 12 years away from being a fully developed brain at age 26 thinking it’s ok to kill an unborn child. She’s not talking about rape or incest here, but kids who want to be accepted and can thus get the validation they crave by “having good boundaries and by getting/giving consent.” This kind of teaching will certainly increase depression, anxiety, and suicide. My suggestion, go read anything by F. Scott Fitzgerald and discuss any question they have about the book. Lots of reality there that can help open the eyes of someone immature and not exposed to the harsh realities of pursuing pleasure in place of truth. It may not be the best suggestion, but it’s certainly better than 97% of what this author offers.

Historia
For over half a century, Banco Popular was one of the most profitable banks in the world—until one day, in 2017, when the Spanish bank suddenly collapsed overnight. When investigative journalist Gareth Gore was dispatched to report on the story, he expected to find yet another case of unbridled capitalist ambition gone wrong. Instead, he uncovered decades of deception that hid one of the most brazen cases of corporate pillaging in history, perpetrated by a group of men sworn to celibacy and self-flagellation who had secretly controlled Popular and abused their positions there.

Boring clickbait (UPDATED after second attempt)
Revisado: 10-17-24
Just got my refund after giving it a second go. CONFIRMED: bad writing and banal descriptions. Only gullible people devour these types of quick conspiratorial reads. The narration is terrible and it's immediately clear how inexperienced this journalist is. People will suspend their disbelief for anything just to confirm their preexisting biases. Such a shame, because I hoped this book would shed new light on Opus Dei. Read the other one-star reviews, apparently most of the information is fabricated. LAME.

A masterpiece that combines the visions of four great Catholic mystics into one coherent story on the life of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Based primarily on the famous revelations of Venerable Anne Catherine Emmerich and Venerable Mary of Agreda, it also includes many episodes described in the writings of St. Bridget of Sweden and St. Elizabeth of Schonau.

An Enthralling Adventure
Revisado: 05-25-24
Visions and ecstatic experiences of God, Jesus, Mary, and the Saints are either fascinating or bizarre and off putting. The intro gives a good background about how to read into others’ experiences and what the Catholic Church’s doctrine teaches about them. Helpful if you are unfamiliar!!
Listening to these have increased my faith by helping me to envision Jesus’ life with His mother and foster father in previously unknown and unexplored ways. I feel (keyword: FEEL) so much closer Jesus after listening to this. Likewise, I FEEL so much closer to Mary and her motherly love. There a so many instances where she brings others to Christ that it really helped me to trust her more with my spiritual life. If she brought so many others closer to Jesus, why can’t she do the same for me in her motherly affection? Really a wonderful experience to hear these visions which do not contradict anything the Catholic Church teaches about Jesus’s salvific plan for humanity. Absolutely wonderful.

Man! What a blast!!
Revisado: 05-08-24
I wish the teacher would make a course for every branch of the military. I couldn’t wait to listen to this course each day. Starting from the beginning of the American revolution, the teacher walks you through the most fascinating details of cultural/political landscapes while heavily focusing the development of the US Navy. I would have easily listened to this course if it were 5x this length and wish it were! Expect renewed and re-heightened respect for our Naval pioneers by going through this course.

Historia
The 25 years between the onset of the French Revolution in 1789 and the Bourbon Restoration after Napoleon in 1814 is an astonishing period in world history. This era shook the foundations of the old world and marked a permanent shift for politics, religion, and society - not just for France, but for all of Europe. An account of the events alone reads like something out of a thrilling novel.

Clarity… Finally
Revisado: 12-13-23
This time period is one of the most confusing epochs to me. What happened? Who really mattered? What’s the “real” story? What do people believe now? Are all questions this course answers. It’s clear, presents both biases well, and discusses contemporary ramifications. Never a dull moment, I finished this to prepare for Joaquin Phoenix’s performance in Napoleon and was not disappointed. I finished it in one week and COULD NOT wait to listen on off times during my day. She tells the stories with bravado and intrigue. I will be reading a lot about the French Revolution in the future. Thank you Great Courses. Thank you Dr. Desan.

Historia
I’ve been in this life for fifty years, been trying to work out its riddle for forty-two, and been keeping diaries of clues to that riddle for the last thirty-five. Notes about successes and failures, joys and sorrows, things that made me marvel, and things that made me laugh out loud. How to be fair. How to have less stress. How to have fun. How to hurt people less. How to get hurt less. How to be a good man. How to have meaning in life. How to be more me. Recently, I worked up the courage to sit down with those diaries.

Couldn’t believe how good this was
Revisado: 12-23-21
Pretty boy romcom McConahance? Nope. This dude lives on the edge. A rebel with a cause. A cowboy with principles. A contradiction in terms. He’s a little fanciful at times, but with due respect, he’s taken more risks and more off-beaten paths than any person I’ve read about in contemporary society. Surprised to find that this book will probably change me for the better, if I’m able to keep the promises I make to myself after reading…

One of the most significant books ever written by a head of state, the Meditations are a collection of philosophical thoughts by the Emperor Marcus Aurelius (121 - 180 ce). Covering issues such as duty, forgiveness, brotherhood, strength in adversity and the best way to approach life and death, the Meditations have inspired thinkers, poets and politicians since their first publication more than 500 years ago. Today, the book stands as one of the great guides and companions - a cornerstone of Western thought.

Historia
These 36 lectures tell the remarkable story of a tumultuous thousand-year period in the history of England. Dominated by war, conquest, and the struggle to balance the stability brought by royal power with the rights of the governed, it was a period that put into place the foundation of much of the world we know today. As you journey through this largely chronological narrative you'll see key themes emerge, including the assimilation of successive waves of invaders, the tense relationship between kings and the nobility, and the constant battles over money and taxation.

Solid and upfront about biases
Revisado: 05-16-18
Even though I agreed with her biases, the lecturer does not try to pull the wool over your eyes with hidden propaganda. I was inspired to listen to this after watching the show Vikings. It went along EXCELLENTLY as a historical foundation for what the English were struggling with in managing the foreign invaders. I also loved her evaluation of kings and princes as they were animatedly described and fair, and her detail which she described the Battle of Hastings aftermath. Overall phenomenal description of social, economic, religious, political ongoings of medieval England. One of my favorite Great Courses I’ve heard.

Extraordinary
Revisado: 11-03-17
This was one of the best productions I have ever come across in my life. The voice actors combined with the sound effects and excellent writing make this drama captivating. It was incredibly awe-inspiring!!! The voices were authentic and the story made me want to sell all my belongings and live with the poor like the real Francis. I hope this company makes many more productions like this. It was superior to a movie and/or a book in many ways - the imagination really got to play along with story. BRAVO.
