Historia
In his final days, beloved and ailing patriarch Miguel Angel de La Cruz, affectionately called Big Angel, has summoned his entire clan for one last legendary birthday party. But as the party approaches, his mother, nearly 100, dies herself, leading to a farewell doubleheader in a single weekend. Among the guests is Big Angel's half-brother, known as Little Angel, who must reckon with the truth that although he shares a father with his siblings, he has not, as a half gringo, shared a life. Across two bittersweet days in their San Diego neighborhood, the revelers mingle.

Historia
When Reyna Grande was nine years old, she walked across the US-Mexico border in search of a home, desperate to be reunited with the parents who had left her behind years before for a better life in the City of Angels. What she found instead was an indifferent mother, an abusive, alcoholic father, and a school system that belittled her heritage. With so few resources at her disposal, Reyna finds refuge in words, and it is her love of reading and writing that propels her to rise above until she achieves the impossible and is accepted to the University of California, Santa Cruz.

My gut feeling told me to continue
Revisado: 02-13-19
I was not sure what to think of the book. I read the first couple chapters not once but 3 times. I was not very interested- but my gut kept telling me to read it again.
I am so glad I did- I could not wait to get in my car- take a break- even go to bed or wake up just so I can continue with the story.
At the end- I had this knot on my stomach and tears just started to flow. I was so immersed in the book- I was just full of all sorts of emotions.
Thank you for these emotions that are hard to embrace at times. Looking forward to reading more of her books.

Historia
My mother named me Gabriella, after my grandmother who, coincidentally, didn't want to meet me when I was born because my mother was unmarried, and therefore living in sin. My mom has told me the story many, many, many, times of how, when she confessed to my grandmother that she was pregnant with me, her mother beat her. BEAT HER! She was 25. That story is the basis of my sexual education and has reiterated why it's important to wait until you're married to give it up.

great content-Different narrator
Revisado: 02-04-19
No offense to the author and narrator- The content was great but the narration could have been better. I had to go back and re-play the audible because the narration would loose me quite a bit.
I think I may actually purchase the book to highlight a few recommendations. I will also order a few books he referenced.

Flashbacks- I too am not the perfect daughter
Revisado: 01-09-19
Loved it. Made me laugh- think about crying and even gave me flashbacks of my own life.
The message at the end though was so deep. How sometimes we live the lives of others because we have opportunities and choices that they never had.
This explains so much about my personal life. I need to celebrate each person in my life embrace their struggles and my struggles because there was a purpose for every single one.
Thank you.
