Historia
It is the year 1613, and King James is sending his messenger Andrew Logan into Scotland with secret orders to arrest Sir David Moray, close friend and advisor of the late Prince Henry. Secrets are second nature to Andrew, who must hide his Second Sight to stay alive. Joined by a court scrivener and the scrivener's spirited daughter Phoebe, Andrew slowly untangles the true purpose of his mission—to frame Sir David for Prince Henry's murder. But Andrew is unwilling to betray an innocent man.

Poor narration
Revisado: 03-06-25
I have read almost all of Susanna Kearsley’s books. As usual, they are slow to develop, though the writing is very good. I am only 25% into the book so the story has not really developed yet, and this is not a review on the story, only on the narration should you decide between the book and audiobook. Keep to the book. The male narrator’s voice sounds too old for a young man in his late 20s. He also does a terrible rendition of the Scottish accent. He just tries too hard. The female voice just cannot do male voices.

Historia
Nicola Marter was born with a gift. When she touches an object, she sometimes glimpses those who have owned it before. When a woman arrives with a small wooden carving at the gallery Nicola works at, she can see the object’s history and knows that it was named after the Firebird - the mythical creature from an old Russian fable. Compelled to know more, Nicola follows a young girl named Anna who leads her into the past on a quest through the glittering backdrops of the Jacobites and Russian courts, unearthing a tale of love, courage, and redemption.

Awful narration
Revisado: 05-27-23
Awful narrator who sounds like a stuck up noble. She does decent accents but I could not stand the voice of Nicola. Story is just meh. Slow-developing. I gave up after about 75% of the book. Skipped to the last 2 chapters and don’t think I missed much.

Could have more potential
Revisado: 03-02-23
The story had a lot of potential. Unfortunately it has moments that could have been better. The narrator did a great job with the narration and Nicholas’ voice. I did not like the voice for Dougless.

Historia
Twenty-seven-year-old Anne Elliot is well past the bloom of her youth. Having been persuaded by her friends and family to break off her happy engagement with the young naval officer Wentworth, whose station lies beneath her own, Anne is seemingly destined for spinsterhood. However, when Wentworth later reappears in Anne’s life, tension and regret are rife and it is unclear whether the two can move past their shared history, or whether some decisions can never be undone.

Excellent narration
Revisado: 02-26-23
Yolonda Kettle is by far my favorite narrator of Persuasion (and I have several audiobooks of Persuasion). She does each voice so well with enough distinction that keeps the story so alive. The voice for Anne could have been softer as Anne is a sweet and tender but assertive girl. But the voice she does for Captain Wentworth is what make me give this audiobook a 5, masculine enough but oh so suave when he reads his letter to Anne.

Historia
Viola Brodure, gentlewoman and celebrated authoress, faces a personal dilemma suited for a novel—everyone wishes for her to make a love match with Ethan Penn-Leith, the famous Highland Poet. After all, the popular novelist and the famous poet are the perfect heroine and hero for their own love story. The problem is that Viola has never met Ethan, not in the flesh, at least. She has read about him and devoured his poetic writings, but does the man himself live up to his dashing reputation?

Narration is not good
Revisado: 12-19-22
The story is ok. Not as good as the first book, the story between Leah and Fox. This one takes too slow to develop. This review is mainly about the audio part of the book. The narrator can only do 1 voice. She can do an ok Scottish accent but all characters get the same voice with no difference, man or woman, old or young. The narrator also tries too hard just to narrate. I did no like her as that takes away from the story. I wish I did not buy the audiobook but just the free kindle version.

Historia
Lina Meisel, a retired librarian in Florida, is reading the newspaper one morning when she freezes. Her eyes lock on a photograph of a book she hasn’t seen in 65 years - a book she recognizes as The Book of Lost Names. The accompanying article discusses the looting of libraries by the Nazis across Europe during World War II - an experience Lina remembers well - and the search to reunite people with the texts stolen from them so long ago. The book in the photograph is one of the most fascinating cases.

This is a great book. The story is amazing. The narrator does an excellent job with different voices but her voice as the narrator was a tad annoying. But overall this is a great story!

Narrator too chirpy
Revisado: 02-23-22
This is the same narrator for the book “the girl who escaped from Auschwitz”. I should have looked it up before buying the audiobook. This narrator is terrible for telling books about Jews and nazi Germany. She sounds way too chirpy for tragic stories. Will read the book instead of listening. (Drove me nuts that she pronounces the name “Hans” “the same way we say Hands”)

Awful
Revisado: 03-02-21
This is an awful narration. The story is great as most of Agatha Christie’s books, but the narrator is just awful. What is most annoying is why does he speak whispering in a loud voice and the way he does Lettice’s voice!!! Trying way too hard, it is just unnatural!!
