Historia
For years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand.

Not entirely my thing, but an interesting read!
Revisado: 01-13-21
As far as the narration went, I found that there wasn’t a whole lot of distinction between the characters. So if you’re an audiobook listener who needs that, I probably wouldn’t recommend this reading.

Historia
In We Are the Weather, Jonathan Safran Foer explores the central global dilemma of our time in a surprising, deeply personal, and urgent new way. Some people reject the fact, overwhelmingly supported by scientists, that our planet is warming because of human activity. But do those of us who accept the reality of human-caused climate change truly believe it? If we did, surely we would be roused to act on what we know.

Loved this read. It’s warm, emotive, provocative, yet simultaneously relatable. I also enjoyed how concise this book was!

A solid read for the scientific-minded reader
Revisado: 04-08-20
I am a Montessori E.C. educator (and loooove it!). I read books about early childhood as a hobby, and this one was suggested to me through a student’s family member. Her friend had recommended it to her, so she relayed the title to me and I took it to heart. I really wanted to like it😬........ but, it never gripped me.
The research is thorough and diligent, but the execution of the author’s thoughts came off a little too pretentious for my taste. From the very beginning, I recall thinking, “Whoa. She sounds like she’s on a warpath... I wonder what her resolution will be.” And my only real takeaway from this entire book was, Let children be children. Let’s all slow our roll a bit, and support them at the individual levels they’re at.
That’s all well and good, but it took 11+ hours to get to that point, and, like I said, the author’s voice was much too highbrow for me at least.
I’m glad I read this, and there are a couple of sentences that will stick with me, but overall it was not an easy read for me... and I live for this stuff.

Historia
Award-winning author Bonnie J. Rough never expected to write a book about sex, but life handed her a revelation too vital to ignore. As an American parent grappling with concerns about raising children in a society steeped in stereotypes and sexual shame, she couldn't quite picture how to teach the facts of life with a fearless, easygoing, positive attitude. Then a job change relocated her family to Amsterdam, where she soon witnessed the relaxed and egalitarian sexual attitudes of the Dutch. There, she discovered, the world's best sex ed begins in kindergarten....

The world would be a better place if everyone read this book and considered its thoughtful and informative words.
Revisado: 08-19-19
Bonnie is incredible. This book is thoroughly researched, but more than that, it was so clearly written with heart.
I had the pleasure of learning about this book at a talk at my school, which Bonnie led to help inform parents of the importance of sex education (and more - including gender equality and roles, etc). As a passionate educator myself, I delved into this book immediately and with full steam, and savored it over many months to try to absorb as much of the details as possible. It gave me MUCH food for thought... Plus, as a future parent, I feel extraordinarily fortunate that I found this information when I did.
I can’t say enough great things about Beyond Birds and Bees. The book itself is a phenomenal resource, and Bonnie’s audio recording brings it to life! Read it!!

Historia
Instead of being merely the receiver of the parents' psychological and spiritual legacy, children function as ushers of the parents' development. Parents unwittingly pass on an inheritance of psychological pain and emotional shallowness. To handle the behavior that results, traditional books on parenting abound with clever techniques for control and quick fixes for dysfunction. In Dr. Shefali Tsabary's conscious approach to parenting, however, children serve as mirrors of their parents' forgotten self.

Truly transforming.
Revisado: 04-03-19
I am a Montessori preschool teacher, and my mentor suggested I read this when I was feeling a little lost in myself. Everything in this book is in line with Montessorian philosophy, so certainly I learned much valuable information as a caregiver... but also I digested a wealth of resources on how to take care of myself.
This book is simplicity at its finest; everything Tsabary writes makes sense to me, moreover is precisely how I wish the world treated one another (see: with reflection and purpose).
I’m purchasing a hard copy of this book for my own future reference, and one as a loaner to send around to my friends and family.
I’m not sure if there are any other ways for me to say: I recommend you just read this already. :)

I tried to give up on this book halfway through, not understanding why it was so popular, but trust me when I say it gets better!! I’m glad I stuck with it; it’s a big-picture sort of narrative.

In this award-winning Audible Studios production, Trevor Noah tells his wild coming-of-age tale during the twilight of apartheid in South Africa. It’s a story that begins with his mother throwing him from a moving van to save him from a potentially fatal dispute with gangsters, then follows the budding comedian’s path to self-discovery through episodes both poignant and comical.

I loved Trevor Noah before, but now...
Revisado: 07-24-18
Wow, this is a great memoir. I thoroughly enjoyed learning about Trevor Noah’s roots (namely, his relationship with his powerful mother!). His writing was comical at times, but more often than not, simply raw and humble. I love him more than ever!
Having an author read their own story is a beautiful thing, too.
Highly recommend!
