Melancholy, sweet, funny, ironic….its what we all experience if we are paying attention. Tom Hanks tempo and temperance breaths an unexpected crosswind, pushing and pulling the words in this and that direction, though they all fall gently together.

It was a good spin, however, the authors attempt to use “coppers” and “villain” speak made the story to lack credibility.

A great listen

The characters are so well developed, enjoyable and authentic. The story is tight, well written and engaging. And if you do not come a way with just a little better sense of how lucky we are to be standing on the shoulders of great, noble men and woman of all backgrounds, that gave their lives. Thank you Elizabeth Wein!

The last great man

In a time when we, Americans, and the rest of the world are so easily distracted by the latest bobble or sparkly object. With few having less interest in improving their world rather than their purchase, we have the selfless, the altruistic, of those who work in public service, when frankly they could have taken the easier path…..this book is not about the easier path or self interest.

10 hours I’ll never get back

I’m sorry, but this was a made for lifetime time tv. A recycled and unoriginal story with unsympathetic characters and just bad writing. The narrators voice being English was an attempt to give the book some credibility…..it did not work.

David ….ing Duchovny

Duchovny has some of the best writing chops in modern day. Humor, irony, wordsmith, and though not able to leap over a little self indulgence, one of my now favorite writers….and for the same price, introductions through reference, to a world of other amazing craftsman. There is a gentle cadence to his style that doesn’t rush the result but plays to the readers desire for character development, in between barbs and verbal coin tricks, there is deep magic in what he builds between the pages. When I grew up….

The story felt half-hearted, like a late night 30 minute drama. No character development, written as if the first attempt by a novice writer. Sorry, but I expect more than paint by numbers.

Chops

When I saw the name I thought, ego project coop of some ghostwriter’s work. The reality, Duchovny has some serious writer’s chops. His characters are so well developed, each having a personal depth and complexity. His storylines are grounded, gritty with texture, humor and scars. A very happy surprise.

Like many, I purchased based on the summary and reviewer’s notes. I am one of those people that no matter how bad a book is, I have to finish it. I once had a book that took me seven years to get through……I could not finish this book.
