Historia
The scandalous image of the Empress Messalina as a ruthless and sexually insatiable schemer, derived from the work of Roman historians such as Tacitus and Suetonius, has taken deep root in the Western imagination. The stories they told about her included nightly visits to a brothel and a twenty-four-hour sex competition with a prostitute. Tales like these have defined the empress's legacy, but her real story is much more complex. In her new life of Messalina, the classicist Honor Cargill-Martin reappraises one of the most slandered and underestimated female figures of ancient history.

Stunning, direct history
Revisado: 03-02-24
Honor Cargill-Martin takes up the unenviable task of defending Messalina, a Roman woman vilified from her own day til now. She has done even better than act as a literary, historical defense attorney, as she humanizes Messalina. This adept feat is done in a professional yet personal manner, as if it were being told to you in a great conversation down at the pub. Messalina before this, to me, was a caricature on display in the 1976 I, Claudius. I always wondered if she coud ever have been so reckless, so debased. Cargill-Martin lays out every detail, no matter how minute, and parses each to glean aspects few bothered with before but are right there, in the texts. A brilliant injection of history and another fine lesson in seeing a woman as more than a sexist idol. I can't wait to see what this author pens next.

Thank You for Bringing Me Back to the Weird West
Revisado: 10-19-17
I got a promo code in exchange for an honest review, and I'm so glad I did. Owl Dance took me back to the Weird West, that lovely subgenre where gunslingers are prone to meeting aliens, dinosaurs and the like. Here, in this first book in a series, we get a sheriff, a healer from Persia, steampunk mechanisms, an alien presence from afar studying Earth, political cat and mouse games, an invasion and several subplots. I was hooked, and listened in every free moment I had. I took a shine to Ramon and Fatima, the two protagonists, but there are many characters in Owl Dance to get to know and appreciate. I am definitely adding the series to my MUST READ list. If you enjoy westerns, steampunk, good characterization and a broad story which encompasses not only a large tract of the Wild West, but also other nations, get this book.

Historia
The Pyramids and the Pentagon is a detailed study of how and why government agencies have, for decades, taken a clandestine and profound interest in numerous archeological, historical, and religious puzzles. Focusing primarily upon the classified work of the U.S. Government, The Pyramids and the Pentagon invites you to take a wild ride into the fog-shrouded past.

A plethora of secrecy. The door cracked open.

Very good. Lots of food for thought here, some great, some flimsy conjecture. Whether you believe in aliens is irrelevant. The sheer number of gov't schemes and coverups is bad news for the general public. Please, use your mind. Investigate.
