Long but worth it - Fantastic narrator
Revisado: 06-16-23
I really liked this book, and I’ve read a lot of thrillers. Great story line. Weird antagonist. Characters you end up caring about. Not so many characters you can’t keep track. It’s a long book, and it was well worth the time to listen to it. The narrator is really good at creepy and different voices. Excellent narration.

Great Story
Revisado: 06-06-23
This is a great story about women who struggle with a lot of real world problems common to most. The story held my attention all the way to the surprise ending. Thanks, Ms Clark. It takes a really great book to keep me in to the end. This was one of the few.

Historia
As the chief forensic anthropologist for the FBI’s Chicago field office, Christine Prusik has worked her fair share of bizarre cases. Yet this one trumps them all: a serial killer is strangling young women and dumping their bodies in the steep, forested ravines of southern Indiana. With each victim, the killer leaves a calling card: a stone figurine carved like the spirit stones found among the native tribes of Papua New Guinea—the same tribes Prusik worked with a decade earlier while doing field research.

Great story - Wish you had chosen different narrator
Revisado: 04-05-23
The narrator is monotone. The story is really great, but the narrator sounds bored with no inflection at all. Definitely disappointing.

Horrible

The chat room and tweet messages in chapters are awful to listen to. I gave up. Not the narrator’s fault. Poorly written book. Big mistake wasting a credit.

A strange plague called the "Gets" is decimating humanity on a global scale. It causes people to forget - small things at first, like where they left their keys... then the not-so-small things like how to drive, or the letters of the alphabet. Then their bodies forget how to function involuntarily - and there is no cure. But now, far below the surface of the Pacific Ocean, deep in the Marianas Trench, an heretofore unknown substance hailed as "ambrosia" has been discovered - a universal healer, from initial reports.

Love story but I would’ve hired a professional narrator
Revisado: 09-24-22
I love the content. The stories are inspiring. Narrator: a big thumbs down. The sound is muffled and there’s not much in his voice to get anyone very motivated. I wish you had hired a professional. It would’ve made this a 5 star book for me. It’s like that time Madeline Engel or Stephen King narrated their own books. Big fail.

Good content needs better narrator
Revisado: 05-20-22
While I love the content, this book is hard to listen to. It’s often my biggest pet peeve when a really great author thinks they are a great narrator💁 and very few are. This is an example of that. Speaking really fast and breathlessly doesn’t really appeal to me when I’m trying to digest serious content. John’s excitement comes through, but I’d definitely get a more experienced narrator. That would improve this book immensely.

Eerie Gothic Horror, Hauntingly Rendered
Revisado: 05-31-21
In the decades since I first read Robert Louis Stevenson's haunting meditation on the duality of man, I had forgotten what an engrossing book it was. Having just listened to Richard Armitage's dramatization, I am reminded why it has such a well-deserved reputation alongside 'Frankenstein' and 'Dracula' as one of literature's great gothic horrors, and why its central metaphysical struggle between benign good and ferocious evil has inspired generations of artists and writers since the book was first published in 1886. With his impeccable delivery and mastery of dialects, celebrated British film and stage actor Richard Armitage turns this reading of Stevenson into the Audible equivalent of a Hammer film. First rate stuff.

Author of the National Book Award-winning All the Pretty Horses, Cormac McCarthy is one of the most provocative American stylists to emerge in the last century. The striking novel Blood Meridian offers an unflinching narrative of the brutality that accompanied the push west on the 1850s Texas frontier.

The Fiend Who Walked the West, or The God-Beast of Yucca Flats
Revisado: 05-20-21
It's easy to see why so many have sought, and failed, to adapt 'Blood Meridian' for the movies: Cormac McCarthy's ferocious source material is irresistable but unfilmable. A horrifying, beautifully written novel featuring one of literature's most fascinating villains: the vast and inscrutable Judge Holden, a nietzschean monster of limitless intelligence and boundless abominations. I kept thinking of Marlon Brando in 'Apocalypse Now,' 'The Missouri Breaks,' and 'The Island of Dr. Moreau.' Combine those three characters, add a brain-melting dose of savagery and perversion, and you've got Judge Holden. An epic novel of existential western horror that upends the mythical ethos of the Old West and will haunt your dreams, if you can make it to the end. Abandon hope, all ye who enter...
