Really interesting characters….
Revisado: 04-30-25
I really enjoy the world, I enjoy the characters, the overall story is sci-fi but not overly so. This story could take place in the 40’s and would still work. It’s got good bone with good skin to match. Really enjoyed it.

Historia
A disturbing tale of a young man's uncanny ability to remain both young and beautiful while descending into a life of heartless debauchery, The Picture of Dorian Gray was considered proof of both Wilde's genius and his perversion. Oscar Wilde's scandalous best seller of 1891 was one of the most damning pieces of evidence used against him in the trial that brought about his downfall.

For the most part I enjoyed it.
Revisado: 04-14-25
The first few chapters are a little dry for me. Made me think of the opening of a horror movie when everything is being set up and you’re waiting for the reason you started.
But I’m glad I kept at it. Eventually, it had its hooks in me and I listened with eagerness.

Historia
For generations, nobles have gathered at a scenic estate once per year to compete. What transpires there is spoken of only in rumors, save for the prizes. Potent, powerful, and precious; the winners are said to receive a gift from magic itself. Reeling after their loss to Kalzidar, the adventurers from Maplebark can only press forward, following advice imparted by the gods. Their divine directions will lead them on a series of twisting paths, branching between old friends and new challenges, before ultimately pointing at a particular estate on a specific evening.

Loved it!
Revisado: 12-27-24
I’m a new fan of Drew Hayes, and I have to say I love how they write. It’s a great twist on an old idea—at least one I haven’t heard before. There’s great progression, the characters are interesting and fun, and the story flows naturally. I can’t wait for more.

Great story with great characters. I would have been happy with just the adventure, but the added story of the real-life players is a nice bonus. I’m intrigued and can’t wait to read more.

Love this series…
Revisado: 11-19-24
I’m writing this after bingeing the last five in the series before getting to eight. I love this series. I love the characters. I love that everyone grows and changes over time—characters are impacted by their experiences in ways that feel meaningful. Not every moment is groundbreaking, but the changes are there, and they matter.
Almost everyone either is or has the potential to be a reasonable, nice person. There’s no “Joffrey”-type character you hate and can’t wait to see them get what’s coming (I’ve only seen the Game of Thrones show, but you get the idea). There are definitely villains, but they aren’t major ongoing threats that dominate the story. They show up, cause their damage, and then Fred reasons his way out of it.
I started with the non-graphic audio version, but I eventually switched just because I liked the graphic audio more. It plays out in my head like a really good 90’s anime, with plenty of that “my friends are my strength” energy. It’s fun and uplifting in all the right ways.
My only minor critique are the short recaps that are told within the story’s beginning which can feel a bit repetitive if you’re binge-reading like I was. That said, I completely understand why they’re there—they’re helpful for anyone jumping into the series mid-way—and it’s such a small thing compared to everything else the series does so well.
At its core, this is a story about a guy who just wants to live peacefully with his friends. I couldn’t relate more. This book, like the whole series, is awesome and so well written. If you’re looking for something fun, heartfelt, and full of great character moments, please give it a shot. You won’t regret it.

Great anthology…
Revisado: 10-24-24
This is a great collection of stories. Each one is exactly as long as it needs to be, with a wonderful variety of settings to explore. The readers are solid—none are terrible, though none stand out as exceptional either. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and recommend it to anyone who's interested.

Historia
Four decades after it first shook the nation, then the world, William Peter Blatty's thrilling masterwork of faith and demonic possession returns in an even more powerful form. Raw and profane, shocking and blood-chilling, it remains a modern parable of good and evil and perhaps the most terrifying novel ever written.

The story is great. The narrator is top notch in the emotion he puts into his reading. It helped me feel more the girl than the movie did. I’m very glad I bought this.

Historia
Jazz Bashara is a criminal. Well, sort of. Life on Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, is tough if you're not a rich tourist or an eccentric billionaire. So smuggling in the occasional harmless bit of contraband barely counts, right? Not when you've got debts to pay and your job as a porter barely covers the rent. Everything changes when Jazz sees the chance to commit the perfect crime, with a reward too lucrative to turn down.

Great story!
Revisado: 08-04-24
This is a fun story. There’s some great humor and a large enough amount of (I’m assuming) real science to scratch that itch that The Expanse tv show started. Rosario Dawson does a great job narrating the whole experience.
I hope more get written. It’s definitely worth a read.

I remember seeing these when I was a kid and I saw the show too but I don’t remember almost anything about the story. It was nice to go through it again. This is a fun story, it’s well paced, and I can’t wait to keep going with it.
