Love Pirate Tales, Read These!!
Revisado: 03-31-24
And oh my goodness!! The conclusion!
I sincerely did not want it to end. A forced marriage? Assassinations and attempts? Good golly, I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. Dealing with the grief and Ali Dane's rendition of the mourning song had me in tears! This was the only part of either audio that I replayed, but not because I didn't understand. I simply want to hear it again!
I cannot fully express how much I enjoyed this pirate tale. I have loved the romanticized version of pirates since childhood. Disney Sing-A-Long Songs is to blame completely. While this is certainly a romanticized telling of pirates, with romance thrown in too, there is also a heavy dose of pirate reality too.
If you love pirate tales, read The Seas of Marecult duology.
I can't be the only one who wishes there was more!

The Pirate's Life For Me!!
Revisado: 03-31-24
I absolutely loved these characters! A pirate's life for me! The world was brought to life beautifully and I felt I was standing on deck and in the taverns with them, shoulder to shoulder, feeling the press of the situation, the frustrations of politics.
The writing style drew me in but the plot kept me engaged. A lot of that credit also goes to the narrator. She lends all her talents to the appropriate intensity and vulnerability of all the characters.
There was never not a time where I wished I wasn't at work or needing to do something else. I wanted to be back with these characters and finding out what happens next.
I was thoroughly mad when it was over! The cliffhanger sensation had me in the grip of FOMO and needed the next book right away...
And so I did...

Historia
Barrie works an indisputable magic on listeners of all ages in this classic tale of the boy who wouldn't grow up. As a baby, Peter Pan fell out of his carriage and was taken by fairies to Neverland. There, he can fly and is the champion of the Lost Boys and a friend to the fairy Tinker Bell. Revisiting England, Peter becomes involved with Wendy Darling and her younger brothers, all of whom accompany Peter to Neverland. The children have many adventures and vanquish the pirate Captain Hook.

Wish I'd read it as a child
Revisado: 03-31-24
Now that I have finally read Peter Pan, I am glad it is over. I see all the problems it has from our modern lens. It is a shame that I didn't read it in my youth and could have experienced the wonder without the understanding of adulthood.
The characters felt erratic and not cohesive. Peter especially was a petulant little boy who always got his own way. Very narcissistic and his behavior was almost perpetually about himself and what was good for him. A leader he was not. The world and writing was fine but the plot and intrigue were less enjoyable. The childlike and selfish logic of the characters left me cringing.
I couldn't enjoy this much at all. I think I prefer the Disney versions and what people have come up with after the fact.
Barrie did create a world that has fascinated millions, and I like what they've done with it.
That all to say that the narrator's performance was phenomenal, the intensity was spot on. 5 Stars for Christopher Cazenove.

The Kind of Fake Dating I Can Get Behind!
Revisado: 03-31-24
Not enemies to lovers, but not friends to lovers either. It's that cliché Best Friend's Sibling bit, but it worked. Even when Sawyer made a bad decision in sending Georgia away from the hospital, he had a moment of compassion for her position but decided to stay in his anger anyway. It was refreshingly normal.
As a contemporary romance in a modern, real-world setting, a lot of work is done in world building, but Holland sprinkles in enough details of Paris and Georgia's school, the hospital, Georgia & Emmerson's apartment, that you fell like you are right there beside them.
I liked how the author developed the insult banter between Georgia & Sawyer. Reminded me of a couple of my past relationships. The good parts that is, which made the plot move forward at a nice pace. I was certainly intrigued by the nasty event and how the conflict of interest really played into the conflict between the characters. The Brother/Sister bond was beautiful as well. Everything was a logical playout & frankly was a much needed palate cleanser for me. Also the narrators were phenomenal. I love Andria's voice and how she gives these women's voices just the right level of vulnerability & strength. Josh, it's nice to meet you.

Pumpkin Spice & Everything Nice
Revisado: 03-31-24
Cute little romance with some really nice spice. And some pumpkin spice thrown in.
This short story was just enough to wet the taste buds and I am looking forward to picking up more of this author's work.
Character and world building were effortlessly sprinkled into the writing and the plot was well paced.
While a short little romance, it also had me intrigued... Who is going to get the job???
I never found myself having to repeat a section because I was confused, and I really enjoyed this on a snowy Christmas Day of reading.
Need a quick romp? Get a pumpkin spice pour-over. Yum!

Historia
Ross Lake was a small and quiet town, the kind where everyone knows each other. When Sara Jensen, a 22-year-old graduate of the police academy, took a position with the Ross Lake Police Department, she never expected to see any action. Then one day, a couple of hikers come across a woman's body in the woods. Sara and her veteran partner, Harold Dunn, are thrown into a world of secrets and horror as they investigate her murder. Dunn and Jensen aren't the only ones who want a confession, though. A malevolent spirit is also seeking revenge and clings to the world of the living.

Unreliable character turns into heart attack!
Revisado: 03-30-24
I was looking forward to a cut little whodunnit thriller and was not expecting this ride.
These characters become a part of you and you will never get them out of your soul. It was certainly entrenched in our own world and the research into how the world of Columbia works showed through.
The style of the writing begs the author to return to thriller and horror! The heart palpitations are certainly real!
I also did not expect half of the plot twists! CL "Chey" Carner is the 3rd recipient of the #CurseOfChap18 !!
I could not stop listening. I could not stop pressing play. Every move the cops made were what I would do in their shoes except one: I would have ran away!
I enjoyed the heck out of this book. For those that read book prompts or challenges, this was started in NaNoWriMo.
Easy 5 Stars!!

More Spike, Cordelia, and Indira!!!
Revisado: 03-30-24
The author spent many years with the cast and characters making their behavior well known to her. While I am not a huge Buffy/Angel fan, I was a huge Spike fan.
The characters were brought back to life by the very actors who brought them to life on screen and we also met some new characters that fit right into the world. Cordelia as a slayer? Kickass!
We weren't back in our Sunnydale, but the world was a familiar one. Even with alternate timelines and worlds the jump between was seamless. Since Benson spent so much time with these characters, she knew how they would talk, react, behave. It was glorious.
Dru and Tara? World Domination? Just like a vamp.
Spike being able to flip between the roles was glorious as well. We saw all sides of him again and it was a credit to Marsters that he could bring Spike's complex nature back to us and Benson gave him the ability to do so.
I really enjoy full cast audio productions anytime I can get them. It reminds me of the old radio shows and they did that here. Sound effects and all.
I definitely want more of Benson's Slayer world in audio.

Short and Sweet?? More like Short and Spicy!!
Revisado: 11-18-23
I would say this was short and sweet, but more like short and spicy! The point was to be hot and get the job done.
Character and World building was perfectly on par for length of the story and the writing was really good relaying this snippet of the Deadly Sins world.
Plot and Intrigue was all about... well, iykyk. Very enjoyable for a quick... Well, you know.
And Blanca Frappier as narrator? List her as one of your favorite narrators. Breathless doesn't even begin to cover it.
