Historia
This is the story of a man who embarks on a highly provocative intellectual adventure with a gorilla - a journey of the mind and spirit that changes forever the way he sees the world and humankind’s place in it. In Ishmael, which received the Turner Tomorrow Fellowship for the best work of fiction offering positive solutions to global problems, Daniel Quinn parses humanity’s origins and its relationship with nature, in search of an answer to this challenging question: How can we save the world from ourselves?

Unabridged… what a difference!
Revisado: 12-30-21
I just stumbled upon this new release while trying to share the original “abridged” audiobook as Christmas presents for friends. You can’t imagine my surprise or delight in this discovery. I immediately downloaded it and tried it out with my new airshox headset listening nearly straight through with the grin of a toddler opening gifts neath the tree on Christmas Day. There is so much additional depth and insight in this new version, I’ve listened to Anthony Heald’s narration so many times it was hard to hear another voice. It’s my only regret with this release… this reader does not have the same ability to vocalize the different characters so during several dense sections of dialog, it was hard to follow who was talking…i felt overlaps tween characters. That not withstanding, the text density was worth tolerating the delivery. One insight though, I did at times find myself preferring some of the flow of the abridged text… it seemed to pinpoint some insights more easily than the text rich version. Regardless, the book, both books… are so terribly relevant today. Please share this book with friends. Oh, and one last thing… to audible… the disclaimer at the start of the book… was so Orwellian and disconcerting… it almost made me think I was doing something wrong in continuing to listen. Don’t know if that was the desired effect… but it was weird. Well enjoy the book… try the short one and see if ya like those editorial choices. Both versions are priceless.

Historia
Many people will remember that Rachel Carson predicted a silent spring, but she also warned of a fruitless fall, a time with no pollination and no fruit. The fruitless fall nearly became a reality when, in 2007, beekeepers watched 30 billion bees mysteriously die. And they continue to disappear. The remaining pollinators, essential to the cultivation of a third of American crops, are now trucked across the country and flown around the world, pushing them ever closer to collapse.

Compulsory Reading - Share with Everyone!
Revisado: 04-12-20
As a beekeeper and staunch advocate for the protection of pollinators, the sooner people understand the problems associated with the way we humans are choosing to exist on this planet, the sooner we may be able to stop this 6th extinction from transpiring. Our global quest for large-scale mono crop agribusiness as the primary means for human existence on earth, means some get extremely wealthy and powerful while most go extinct. Trouble is, when all the life has been squandered in pursuit of wealth and power, one cannot eat money nor exist in a world devoid of that which fostered our ascent to planetary domination . Well done Rowen, this is an epic novel that deserves to be a chart-topper. Move over Rachel Carson, your "silent spring" has reaped a fruitless fall.

Historia
Young Hiram Walker was born into bondage. When his mother was sold away, Hiram was robbed of all memory of her - but was gifted with a mysterious power. Years later, when Hiram almost drowns in a river, that same power saves his life. This brush with death births an urgency in Hiram and a daring scheme: to escape from the only home he’s ever known. So begins an unexpected journey that takes Hiram from the corrupt grandeur of Virginia’s proud plantations to desperate guerrilla cells in the wilderness, from the coffin of the South to dangerously idealistic movements in the North.
