Brutal to listen to
Revisado: 03-30-22
Narrator butchers pronunciations, rushes the storytelling and is bad at female voices. Story is not as good as the rest of the obsidian trilogy but a nice young adult read

Needs a female reader
Revisado: 02-07-19
Normally I don't care who's reading a book but this is a medieval time period book and clearly the reader does not read female voices well. His cadence is way off for how a female would speak. it renders the story a little flat.

Historia
Killashandra Ree has spent ten grueling years in musical training, anticipating interstellar celebrity as a vocal soloist. She is young, beautiful—and still without prospects. After learning that a flaw in her voice will prevent her from singing lead, she hears of the mysterious Heptite Guild on the planet Ballybran, where the fabled Black Crystal is found. Mining this strange form of crystal is a dangerous occupation but to Killa, the risks are acceptable. Remarkably, her adaptation to crystal mining is unusually easy. The problem is—few people who land on Ballybran ever leave.

Experience the first Killashandra Ree adventure, in which the indomitable Killa overcomes disappointment in one career by diving into a much more exciting one. Filled with suspense, anguish, romance, and intrigue, this distinctive adventure is one of Anne McCaffrey's best.

Historia
Winter is coming. Such is the stern motto of House Stark, the northernmost of the fiefdoms that owe allegiance to King Robert Baratheon in far-off King's Landing. There Eddard Stark of Winterfell rules in Robert's name. Far to the north, behind the towering Wall, lie savage Wildings and worse - unnatural things relegated to myth during the centuries-long summer, but proving all too real and all too deadly in the turning of the season. Yet a more immediate threat lurks to the south, where Jon Arryn, the Hand of the King, has died under mysterious circumstances....

My son just enjoys the series and the way it curves through the girls stories and the boys stories without sounding like it's only girly or boy

Historia
Ever since the gods of Ancient Egypt were unleashed in the modern world, Carter Kane and his sister, Sadie, have been in trouble. As descendants of the House of Life, the Kanes have some powers at their command; but the devious gods haven't given them time to master their skills at Brooklyn House, a training ground for young magicians. And now their most threatening enemy yet - the Chaos snake, Apophis - is rising. If they don't prevent him from breaking free in a few days' time, the world will end. In other words, it's a typical week for the Kane family.

An engaging audio and an engaging read!
Revisado: 05-23-12
Would you listen to The Throne of Fire again? Why?
Yes, my son is the one listening to these and he loves the characters, the interaction and the accuracy to mythological legends.
What other book might you compare The Throne of Fire to and why?
It's actually a better read than Riordan's Heroes of Olympus series because it's better written and a much better set of performers on the audio version!
What does Kevin R. Free and Katherine Kellgren bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
My son loved the interplay between the two characters and how they rounded out the idea of a brother-sister team without making the reading sound dry.
The reality is that I buy the audiobooks specifically so that my son who is dyslexic can stay well read and on his grade level despite his inability to read. He is almost twelve years old and these characters spoke to him. Frequently, audiobooks are read without inflection and without the reality that someone with language deficits needs in order to integrate language. These two readers hit all the high points, as well as covering a variety of accents.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
Thousands of Years of Family Drama Comes to Life!
