Wow! This was awesome!
Revisado: 04-25-25
I’ve never read Fuzzy Nation. But I did listen to a sample of the first book by a different author in this Audible series and was wholly unimpressed. I thought this was going to be the 7th in the series but then bought it by accident. Oh well, Will Wheaton and John Scalzi? I figured I’d give it a try and as usual, loved it right he away. It never stopped being awesome. The hero is a smart talking, honorable person who wins in the end. Just the sort of book I like.

Love Lindsay Buroker. Hated this book.

Made it to chapter 12 of 17, so about 70% of the way through. I didn’t think that Lindsay Buroker could fail. But this was a failure. Uninteresting. Unfunny. I don’t know… just a miss.

Historia
Imagine a 1980s world of sumptuous hotel rooms, restaurants, New York City penthouses, and the powerful men who move easily between these pinnacles of luxury. They are music producers, rock stars, writers, and restaurateurs. They are household names like Billy Joel, Art Garfunkel, Eric Clapton, and Sting. And yet, each man has an entire aspect to his life that he doesn’t talk about publicly—his depression, his rocky marriage, his feelings of shame and failure, his private loss of faith. And now: The phone rings. Imagine the woman who has each of these men at her beck and call.

Revisado: 03-21-25
This was an interesting story that kept me engaged through most of it, though there was movie-like montage scenes. In the end, I was probably disappointed.

I've been living in a small town working for the vampires for the last six months. All I want is to save up enough to open an apothecary so I don't have to heal the neckers anymore. Of course, nothing in my life can be that simple. Two detectives show up at my door asking questions about a dead girl and trying to pin the murder on my employer. Next thing I know, I'm dodging fireballs in parking lots.

DNF. Narrator had no inflection.

Made it to Chapter 6. Narrator was unlistenable. Story was not good enough to make up for narrator. AI could have read just as well.

Historia
Agent Isaac Steele has problems. He spends all his splibs on drink and drugs. He has some deep-seated and very much unresolved issues with his parents. And his robotic partner at Greatest Britain’s Department of Clarification, Dr Timothy Stephens, is ruled more by his heart than his hard drive. But all these issues take a back seat when Isaac stumbles upon a case involving the most sensitive information in the cosmos - a Never File, inaccessible to all except those with the highest clearance. He is expressly forbidden to involve himself. So naturally he does.

Author was on shrooms
Revisado: 03-16-25
This is worth starting and I think, worth finishing. The wild imagery doesn’t stop. The ridiculousness is continuous. I think the author was hallucinating when building this world. But it is fun.

Historia
There are nine known realms, a world for each race, including dwarves, gnomes, and elves. In the middle rests Middang3ard. Each world knows the others. Each, except Earth. Humans long ago turned their backs on magic, throwing their stock into science and technology, their governments shielding the people from the reality of what was going on elsewhere. So be it. Humans were never very good at getting along with other races anyway. Then the Dark One appeared, threatening to overrun the nine worlds, starting with Middang3ard and ending with the humans' planet.

Unrealistic dialogue
Revisado: 08-08-24
The unrealistic dialogue did not offset the middling plot. It felt like one of those terrible TV shows where each actor chips in just to have dialogue, not for any purpose related to moving the story like forward. I quit while there was still an hour left to go in the story. Yeah, the performances/dialogue were so bad that I didn’t care how the story ended.

Repetitive… bored
Revisado: 05-02-24
I stopped reading the series here. The series is becoming repetitive/redundant. Great masculine men “whipped” (author’s word) and speaking/behaving as an idealized version of what some women want. They all act the same. The women always quickly fall for the man, and then they slowly work their way into a romantic relationship. This book is like a casual relationship; great while it lasted but time to end. On the other hand some people might find the accumulation of multiple healthy, but vapid relationships fun to read.
