Historia
Hildy Good is a townie. A lifelong resident of a small community on the rocky coast of Boston's North Shore, she knows pretty much everything about everyone. And she's good at lots of things, too. A successful real-estate broker, mother, and grandmother, her days are full. But her nights have become lonely ever since her daughters, convinced their mother was drinking too much, sent her off to rehab. Now she's in recovery—more or less.

What a narrator!
Revisado: 01-23-21
I felt like I was sitting across from Hildy just listening to her tell me her story in person. Mary Beth Hurt is an outstanding narrator. I’ve had this book for a long time and hadn’t listened to it, but as soon as I started I couldn’t stop. I just had to know what would happen to her. That’s the power of good narration.

Revisado: 12-15-20
I listened to several narrators of the Christmas classic before choosing this one. Chandler Craig does a wonderful job with all the characters. He’s very good at expressing the emotion of Mr. Scrooge.

Tim Curry is a good narrator, terrible voice actor
Revisado: 12-11-19
I love the story of A Christmas Carol. If Tim Curry simply read this book in his own voice without trying to act it, it would've been an enjoyable listen. However, his voice acting is just awful. Most of the characters are indistinguishable from each other and that includes the women and children. All of the character voices sound as if they've had too much to drink. I tried this book twice. I got within 50 minutes of finishing before I abandoned it for good. I found a version narrated by Chandler Craig that, so far, if very enjoyable. Skip Tim Curry and give Chandler Craig a try.

Historia
This is the second story in the Anne of Green Gables series. Skinny little red-haired Anne has changed into a pretty 16-year-old and is all grown up - well, sort of grown up. The story opens with Anne as a school teacher at Avonlea school. When Anne reached the school that first morning, she was confronted by prim rows of "shining morning faces". She had sat up until nearly midnight composing a speech which she had revised and improved painstakingly. It was a wonderful speech with fine ideas. And then, she couldn't remember it!

Historia
Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert of Green Gables had no intention of adopting the talkative, mischievous, red-headed girl the orphanage in Nova Scotia sent by mistake. What they wanted was a sturdy, sensible boy to help with the chores. Instead, they got 11-year-old Anne Shirley, whose capacity for adventure was only matched by her bright spirit and love of life. Still, there was something about the little girl that gave them second thoughts. She was keen of wit with a scintillating effervescence that was purely captivating. Just perhaps....

Classic story narrated PERFECTLY!
Revisado: 09-11-19
Of course Anne of Green Gables is a magnificent story made better by Laurie Klein’s narration. Her “Anne” is perfect, bright and open, exactly like what she should sound like. Marilla and Matthew are so well performed that I feel I could visualize exactly how they look. If you’re trying to decide which version of this book to choose, choose this one!

Historia
In Dad is Fat, stand-up comedian Jim Gaffigan, who’s best known for his legendary riffs on Hot Pockets, bacon, manatees, and McDonald's, expresses all the joys and horrors of life with five young children - everything from cousins ("celebrities for little kids") to toddlers’ communication skills ("they always sound like they have traveled by horseback for hours to deliver important news"), to the eating habits of four-year-olds ("there is no difference between a four-year-old eating a taco and throwing a taco on the floor").

My kids and I enjoyed this book immensely. The story of Matilda's life was shockng to them and the Trunchbull was very scary to imagine as a head mistress. It's a well told story and the kids (ages 5-12) absolutely loved it. Kate Winslet is outstanding as narrator. I was amazed at her talent. It's a fun book. I highly recommend it.
