The second novel in the series, Hawthorne and Horowitz are investigating the death of a divorce lawyer who was murdered with a bottle of wine. Over the course of investigating the various suspects secrets are revealed and red herrings run abundant. The mystery was a good story, however, I can't help but compare this series to the Barker and Llewelyn (B&E) series by Will Thomas and find the Hawthorne series lacking. I was first intrigued with the premise of the author placing himself as a "character" helping a former police officer in investigating murders similar to Arthur Conan Doyle's Watson and Holmes. The little snippets of a writer and the challenges of bringing printed word to the screen were interesting, but overall, I honestly don't care much about the character "Horowitz". Both the Hawthorne series and the B&E series have the "Sherlock" character as a mysterious, secretive, and a bit aloof character with the "Watson" character bumbling about and curious about "Sherlock" and investigating his life. Will Thomas created likable characters with integrity and more of a mentorship while Horowitz created a homophobic detective who practically encourages his "Watson" to make a fool of himself and a "Watson" who is a bit unethical and offensive towards the disabled. Both narrators of the audiobooks give a great performance, however, going forward I will be sticking to Victorian England and the B&E series. (Posted on Goodreads as well).

Once again Charles Martin pulls at the reader's heart strings. This novel follows Dr. Mitch, a heart transplant surgeon, who lost his wife Emma. We see the tribulations he has been through and the path to allowing himself to heal. Along the way he meets Annie, a young girl, and her Aunt Cindy and a new path starts for him. Adam Verner gave a wonderful performance as narrator. This book will definitely make it onto my 'to read again' list. This is the story of losing a loved one, blaming yourself for the loss, and accepting and moving on, starting anew and throughout is the reminder that God has a plan for all of us.

Life isn’t always brighter on the other side. This novel tackles celebrity issues, racism, sexual harassment, and self esteem issues among many others. It was a free listen with Audible Plus, however I find myself very tempted to buy it for my collection. The narrator did a fantastic job, very easily changing styles and voices for each character. The story grabbed my attention and didn’t let go - I even put off sleeping until after I finished the book. Excellent romantic, thought provoking novel about stepping into the shoes of another.

Set in Somalia, Jake gets into a lot of skirmishes. New friends are made and some are lost. CIA boss Ted Graves remains a punch worthy character. This is one of those books that you tell yourself, ‘He’d never get through all that in real life,’ but for escapism, it’s a decent book.

2nd in the Brit in the FBI series, this audiobook retains the narrators from the second book. Both narrators continue to have certain aspects (pronunciations, etc) that sometimes brings the reader out of the action. This book did not feature supernatural-like events unlike the first book in the series. Nicholas Drummond is on his first official day in the FBI with Mike Caine as his partner when they stumble on case that takes them from the U.S. to London, Scotland, and Paris. Nick and Mike uncover a secret organization and the quest for a weapon that Marie Curie developed. There is plenty of mystery, double crosses, and action to keep the reader engaged. Although there is mention of events from the first book, this book can be read as a stand-alone.

It has been years since I have watched the movie so the story wasn't fresh in my mind. That being said, I can see how some people would say the novel drags in places. There is plenty areas of action as the crew of the Nostromo attempt to escape from an alien lifeform aboard their ship. As with most novels when compared to the movie, the novel added extra details to the story which made it more enjoyable in my opinion. The narrator's performance and sound effects added to my enjoyment of the story.

Second in the Alan Dean Foster Alien universe, the book was just as good as the movie. The narrator did a great job voicing the different characters.

Interesting addition to the Alien franchise. The multiple narrators did a great job and I was easily able to picture events happening in my mind. I did not sense any incongruity with the timeline of the original novels. I would have rated it higher but because of the events that deal with Ripley’s recall, I felt that this just turned into a filler piece during her journey home and it left me a bit disappointed.

Jeez, this could be 2020 - Where's Joe Rush?

Published in 2015, this book would most definitely fit in 2020-2021. Colonel Joe Rush, MD is tasked to command a group of Marines and rescue 107 surviving sailors from a submarine (U.S.S. Montana) accident in the Arctic Ocean. Racing against the clock, the rescue group must battle severe weather and breaking ice to beat the approaching crew of the Chinese submarine to the U.S.S. Montana who want to raid the U.S. torpedos. Complicating matters, there is a spy amongst the rescue group. A virus from the past is unearthed and Dr. Rush must work to prevent the spread of it and find a cure for those already infected. James Abel wrote an engaging novel, easily keeping the action at a good pace. Flashbacks allow us to learn more about Colonel Rush and endear us to his character. While Ray Porter gave a good performance giving most characters distinct voices, his narration of a few characters blurred into each other. With six more chapters left in this book, I already purchased the next book in the series in anticipation of reading what is next for bio-terrorism expert Colonel Joe Rush, MD.

Gripping Sci/Fi thriller, Gerritsen explores the possibility of a biological attack in space. Although this plot has been used in many ways, this novel kept my attention and I finished this book in one day. The novel's conclusion did leave way for a potential sequel or just to let the reader's mind tumble into the "what if" area. I would place this book alongside "Andromeda Strain" by Michael Crichton and also has a feel of the "Aliens" early franchise novels by Alan Dean Foster. Narrator William Dufris gave an excellent performance.
