I love that this is only a stand alone publication. I love Kristen Ashley mot of the time, and this story didn't fail to entertain me. It was hard to put down most of the time, but I wanted the story to take longer because it was that good. The mystery and family drama make the entire story believable (or at least to those of us that aren't or have ever been in the area of nobility). This was a true roller coaster ride from start to finish. Highly recommend this and it's already on my re-read/listen to list.

Sarah McCulloch was a sleeper surprise in this story. If we're all honest we all know someone like her. Quiet, shy and likes to stay under the radar. Sarah is the perfect example of how to never underestimate the quiet people. They see more than most and learn from others experiences.

Theo Cavendish comes off as a tall poppy. He has a somewhat stereotypical 'British' attitude. Cold persona and cuttingly dry wit and humor. Considering his age, this is all revealed later in the story as to why he is this way and what he's protecting himself from.

Sarah with Theo might seem like a bit of crazy, but when Sarah makes herself be brave with nothing left to lose, she ends up on the ride of her life. And Theo will be grateful for the quiet 'little mouse' when the going really gets tough. Family is never easy.

There is also slight satisfaction knows people get their comeuppance along the way. Everyone can pretend to better than that, but in reality most people want the sour attitudes, bullies, and cheats to get theirs in the end.

This book works as a book end to the previous story. We find out how Lara comes out the other side of the ordeal. We found her in in Cora‘s story. The writing is great, but the story drags a little bit due to working through Lara’s PTSD. So I will think of this story more as an in between to get to Stone’s story, which is coming up next.

This is a story just as you would expect to find from this series of characters. While branching away from the Seattle family, the Montgomery’s are now in Montana. Hopefully we can look forward to guest appearances from the with me in Seattle series and possibly even Big Sky cross-overs. Having the restaurant Ciao opening in town, that seems to be a likely possibility. The story has all the great love stories, as you would expect from these characters. It is emotional, and engaging, and keeps you wanting to turn the page. Another fantastic book by author Kristen Proby.

Most exciting and emotional SS book ever

This is one of the most emotionally charged books I think SS has ever written. I'm very glad the bad guy didn't get much talking time because there was no way a reader wants to hear that twisted thought.

Heather is the ultimate person we should all inspire to be. Big heart, craves knowledge, generally nice human being. Great story and I love how Tal can be recognized as a man that wants to be a provider. Admitting he appreciates a woman's independence but still wants to take care of her and that she can LET him do it was the best part of this story for me.

Due to Heather's circumstances, of course these two are ultimately compatible. Wonderful story and can't wait for the last installment!

I like that for the older characters with an established life and routine, there wasn’t some crazy, unbelievable story. This is possibly the most believable to happen story ever. Knowing Jodelle was a good 10-15 years older then the rest of the group I can understand them not hanging out together, but I did miss them butting into things. The absolute best is the Epilogue!! I’m so happy Theo is so strongly entrenched in this group. The years down the line is always a happy/sad moment. It would be fun to see Ben guest star in Protecting Remi when it’s released.

As this is book 3 in the Refuge series, you will enjoy is more if you have gotten to know the characters prior to this point. However it's not necessary since Spike hasn't been a main focus so far. I love that Reese knows who she is and what she wants, although it is frustrating when she seemingly acts without thinking which is the entire set up of this story. The secondary story involving Reese's brother, Woody, and his girlfriend Isabella helps move the story along. I do wish it didn't seem as though everyone was ignoring the most obvious reason for their predicaments. Military people in books tend to hash out every last possible concern or detail of what is found, so if they don't do that, it can seem obvious to the reader. One of the nice changes to read about was how Reese was always trying to make others comfortable and happy. I can appreciate her positivity and in the end, I hope people can think about that while reading. There are a few up and down moments as there usually are in Stoker books, but it fits with the personalities of the Refuge and am excited to read about Pipe in the next book.

I love Eagle Point SAR but this one took me a while to get through. I think the overall personalities of Caryn and Drew were stilted. Caryn was hung up in the inequality and her treatment in all the jobs she had, which is expected in her field. But she couldn’t get past it or talk to anyone so it was much of the same things being said over a majority of the story.

Drew wasn’t overly or under possessive and kind of sat back to let Caryn work through things on her own, when normally the guys tried to throw out suggestions or generally talk more about any of these life choices. I just felt very uninspired I guess, by the characters. When the action kicked in and people’s true colors showed it was great and I wanted more. I feel like the antagonist was the main character this time, and he was kind of a Buffoon! This is my bridge story to get to Finley!
