Historia
The second in beloved and bestselling fantasy grandmaster Sir Terry Pratchett's beloved Discworld novels starring the young witch Tiffany Aching. Tiffany Aching is ready to begin her apprenticeship in magic. She expects spells and magic—not chores and ill-tempered nanny goats! Surely there must be more to witchcraft than this. What Tiffany doesn't know is that an insidious, disembodied creature is pursuing her.

Great little story
Revisado: 06-07-24
What I especially like about the Tiffany Aching series is how it's definitely a young adult novel but it doesn't feel like it. The descriptions in it are a joy to read and respect the reader's intelligence. The audiobook just enhances everything with the voice work as you get so much fun tone.

Historia
Somewhere on the frontier between thought and reality exists the Discworld, a parallel time and place that might sound and smell very much like our own, but which looks completely different. Particularly as it’s carried though space on the back of a giant turtle (sex unknown). It plays by different rules. But then, some things are the same everywhere. The Disc’s very existence is about to be threatened by a strange new blight: the world’s first tourist, upon whose survival rests the peace and prosperity of the land.

Gimmick gets stale after a while
Revisado: 06-02-24
This book reminds me of having a DnD party and one of the players rolls a character with a odd quirk or trait. This trait is all they've written for their character and it's what defines them. They then take this character and replay that same trait over and over and over again.
That's what the two main characters remind me of. There are still funny parts, but it all gets stale after a while.
Main guy is a wizard who only knows one spell that he's afraid of saying because it'll probably end the world. He's also a coward, but is insanely lucky with not dying. Makes some good banter with Death.
Other character is a tourist who is insanely naive to the world and thinks this is all one big amusement park ride. It's fine at points, but the lack of agency from him and Mr. McGoo walking through explosions starts to get the stale.
The story in general has zero agency as the characters get out of everything despite their stupidity or cowardice. Which I get is kind of the point of the story, but it's just not for me. I prefer Guards, Guards and Wee Free Men.

Historia
The second Dune installment explores new developments on the planet Arrakis, with its intricate social order and strange, threatening environment. Dune Messiah picks up the story of the man known as Muad'Dib, heir to a power unimaginable, bringing to fruition an ambition of unparalleled scale: the centuries-old scheme to create a superbeing who reigns not in the heavens but among men. But the question is: DO all paths of glory lead to the grave?

90% talking
Revisado: 10-27-21
It's fine. But the problem is nothing really happens until the end. The politics are top notch, but fall flat as every scene feels as though ther characters are just sitting at a table, talking. Nothing exciting happens to build off the politics as they're happening. Paul and his sister are reduced to some prophecy seeking psychos. The Princess Eralon is reduced to some baby seeking nut job. Herbet brings back a dead character just so Paul's sister has someone to get hot for. It's all just too weird, stupid, and boring.
The performance was solid, but after following the first Dune, this one is just lacking all around. Despite bringing back most of the narrators, you only have them reading their chapters. In the first Dune audiobook, they all were voicing characters in a chapter with the sound effects and soundtrack creating a very Radio Drama feel. None of that is here and for a book that is just about talking and politics, it really really needed something to liven it up.
The book is like half the length at best of the first one and my review reflects that. Herbert could have put more into this and not made it so prophecy fueled nonsense, but instead it just felt like he was spinning his wheels to write Paul after he became emperor.
Just a very disappointing book all around. I understand the reputation it has now.

Historia
In this first in a series of wickedly funny mysteries, best-selling author Lawrence Block introduces Bernie Rhodenbarr, sometimes burglar, sometimes sleuth. Pulling only an occasional, very discreet job, Bernie manages to maintain his comfortable New York City apartment and keep his unorthodox vocation a closely-guarded secret. Every burglar knows never to trust anonymous phone calls. But when the caller offers easy money for an hour's work, Bernie can't ignore the job.

Solid
Revisado: 08-19-16
Honestly I'm not sure what all the negative reviewers have against this story. It's a solid murder mystery with a fun perspective from another criminal that we don't really see a lot in other stories. The focus on locks, keys, and lock picking was a great over arching theme to the story. The only real complaint I had was the main character was stuck in the apartment a bit too long and I felt bored. Other than that the noire setting was executed really well, the narrator did a fine job creating the smokey filled room like nostalgia of a classic detective story (although Bernie and Ray sounded a bit too alike at times), and the characters themselves kept things interesting with their ever evolving and revealing back stories.
I'd recommend this to anyone who is a fan of the genre and audio books.
