To do this dangerous task will mean giving up his family and possibly his life. A Good Use of Voice
Revisado: 07-16-24
I enjoyed the distinct voices as the narrator read. Unfortunately, the reading was filled with mis-read words that often changed the intent of the sentence or just as often made the sentence entirely bereft of meaning.
I also felt the pace of the reading was unnecessarily slow.
The story, itself, was very thought provoking from beginning to end.

Sixteenth-century Spanish gentleman Don Quixote, fed by his own delusional fantasies, takes to the road in search of chivalrous adventures. But his quest leads to more trouble than triumph. At once humorous, romantic, and sad, Don Quixote is a literary landmark. This fresh edition, by award-winning translator Edith Grossman, brings the tale to life as never before.

Historia
A poet on the faculty of an Ivy League school is found murdered, setting off ripple effects of anxiety, suspicion, and panic in the hot house atmosphere of an English department rife with talk of Freud and Kafka. This classic novel is one of eight works included in The Library of America's two-volume edition Women Crime Writers: Eight Suspense Novels of the 1940s & '50s, edited by Sarah Weinman.

Exquisite Reading
Revisado: 08-06-23
The narrator gave by far the most accurate rendering of any audio book I have ever listened to. It was a pleasure to appreciate her superb reading and character interpretation as well.
The writing was compelling page after page; an especial delight was reading descriptions of life in the period including small things like noting multiple daily mail deliveries.

Historia
Never having run for office before, Katie Porter charted a new path in 2018 when she was elected to Congress as a Democrat in historically conservative Orange County, California. Underestimated as a single mom and chided for her progressive values, Katie defied expectations. Then, using her signature whiteboard, she began to take CEOs and corrupt government officials to task in Congressional hearings. The videos went viral, introducing Americans to her no-bullshit style, and making her a coveted guest on cable news and late-night television.

Inspiring, Well Told, Enjoyably Narrated
Revisado: 06-04-23
Learning so much more of Ms. Porter’s journey has left me more impressed by her than ever.
It was heartrending to hear her tell of the pain her children experienced when she felt compelled to speak openly about the failure of her marriage.
And painful to think, had she not done so, we would likely have lost her as a congresswoman.

Historia
This is the story of an apparently young, amnesiac girl whose alarmingly unhuman needs and abilities lead her to a startling conclusion: She is in fact a genetically modified, 53-year-old vampire. Forced to discover what she can about her stolen former life, she must at the same time learn who wanted - and still wants - to destroy her and those she cares for and how she can save herself.

Compelling Story - Superb Narration
Revisado: 05-10-23
Butler develops a novel exposition on a traditional vampire theme that held me in thrall from start to end. I loved her writing, plotting and character development. I thought the novel was a thought provoking study on free will and privacy.
The narration was by far the best of all the many audiobooks I have listened to. Adenrele Ojo clearly did a lot of preparation. The accuracy of her reading and the tenor of her voice was exceptional. I am so appreciative of her effort.
I hope you enjoy the reading and writing as much as I have.

Reading, Quite Weak
Revisado: 04-10-23
Page after page of mispronunciations. Neither the reader nor the editors took the time to see that common everyday words were pronounced correctly. It was a continual irritation and a disservice to the book, which had quite an interesting thesis which is well propounded.
A real disappointment!

Audible Reader Takes Too Much License
Revisado: 02-05-23
It is very frustrating, listening to the story and recognizing page after page the reader is changing the authors words over and over again.
She routinely makes small, but annoying changes, for example résumé becomes CV. Many small changes like that.
Worse, she adds words and occasionally drops words. Sometimes she adds an entire sentence and is entirely comfortable completely reworking a sentence.
She changes names of things like a movie theater and people.
It’s distracting and disheartening to feel the reader believes she knows better how something should be written than the author.
And all, it made it hard to listen.

The Ministry for the Future is a masterpiece of the imagination, using fictional eyewitness accounts to tell the story of how climate change will affect us all. Its setting is not a desolate, post-apocalyptic world, but a future that is almost upon us - and in which we might just overcome the extraordinary challenges we face.

A Pollyanna View of Climate Change
Revisado: 01-13-23
A story about what could come to pass if people and events colluded to turn around the rapid warming of our planet.
There was impressive creativity in the story development, but the storyline itself felt terribly weak.
The reading was generally very good, but for quite a number of mispronunciations, small changes of words from the written text, and, at least, one occasion, of a sentence left out entirely. All of this suggested that not much attention was paid to reviewing the recording for faithfulness to the text.

The essays reveal in very personal terms the pain and suffering of exchanging a birth land for a new home.
The reading of Ms Kay is quite smooth and assured. It has been a pleasure to listen as she read. I especially appreciate how well she read non-English expressions. Thank you.

Gadsby grew up as the youngest of five children in Tasmania, where homosexuality was illegal until 1997. After moving to mainland Australia and receiving a degree in art history, they found themselves adrift, working itinerant jobs and enduring years of isolation punctuated by homophobic and sexual violence. When Gadsby was twenty-seven, a friend encouraged them to enter a stand-up competition. They won, and so began their career in comedy.

Revisado: 11-10-22
An extraordinary telling of a life’s journey along a surprising path. Hannah invites us to see inside the world of an autistic and in a manner we might normally never have access to. It feels unbelievably intimate and engaging. I will be forever grateful.
