Historia
Politicians, pseudo-experts, and other partisans have led us to believe that there are only two approaches to climate change: doomerism or denial. Benji Backer, Founder and Executive Chairman of the American Conservation Coalition, argues that both are dead ends. In The Conservative Environmentalist, he delivers an entirely new strategy to take care of the planet while putting the economic interest of the American people first.

I think the author has been too influenced by the extremes of both sides of the political spectrum
Revisado: 06-23-24
It would be helpful for the author to review some history to better understand why federal regulation took hold in industries that pollute our communities and destroy nature. His concern about corruption in national politics would be valid if he also recognized that corruption occurs in the same way at the local and state level. People are either moving toward something they like (reward) or away from something they dislike (penalty).
I appreciate that he cares about environmental issues but his take on a free market, local solution to climate protection decisions are just naive. The same way you want people who live in urban areas to understand those who live in rural areas should be said for both.
I really wanted to like this book and was open to his message but he lost me early on. Too political and too ‘free market solves everything’ ….. uggg

Historia
American evangelical Christianity has lost its way. While the witness of the church before a watching world is diminished beyond recognition, congregations are torn apart over Donald Trump, Christian nationalism, racial injustice, sexual predation, disgraced leaders, and covered-up scandals. Left behind are millions of believers who counted on the church to be a place of belonging and hope. As greater and greater numbers of younger Americans bleed out from the church, even the most rooted evangelicals are wondering, “Can American Christianity survive?”

An honest internal look at one’s beliefs
Revisado: 02-18-24
The writer has clearly gone through a journey of soul searching of his beliefs and a critical review of the business of Christianity at least within evangelical circles. He gets a bit preachy but it’s his way of making his points and that’s ok. It’s a good read. I fear though that the people who need it most are not likely to pick it up. It’s sad how right wing political operatives have so deeply infiltrated the Christian faith.
My only feedback is he should spend more time with secular people. We are not as lost as he may think we are.

Historia
Inspired by her research for the hit podcast Ultra, Rachel Maddow charts the rise of a wild American strain of authoritarianism that has been alive on the far-right edge of our politics for the better part of a century. Before and even after our troops had begun fighting abroad in World War II, a clandestine network flooded the country with disinformation aimed at sapping the strength of the U.S. war effort and persuading Americans that our natural alliance was with the Axis, not against it.

Excellent but I’m left dumbfounded
Revisado: 11-16-23
So many thoughts and feelings after listening to this… the more I learn the deeper details of history the more I realize how much just boils down to chance or maybe dumb luck. This book certainly illustrates that. Or maybe it’s more how one person or just a few, really can make a difference… ok Rachel, this was awesome, now help me to understand how so many people develop these far right and even far left ideologies. Is it how you were raised, your environment, a combination? Are we doomed as a species.. keep up the good work!
