Historia
At one time, Corrie ten Boom would have laughed at the idea that she had a story to tell. For the first 50 years of her life, nothing out of the ordinary ever happened to her. She was a spinster watchmaker living contentedly with her sister and their elderly father in the tiny house over their shop in Haarlem. Their uneventful days, as regulated as their own watches, revolved around their abiding love for one another. But with the Nazi invasion and occupation of Holland, everything changed....

However painful and real the suffering of war is to read, this story of strength, perseverance, and spiritual conviction is empowering and uplifting.
I’m glad I now know this woman’s history. Her story will stay with me always.

Historia
In the aftermath of the 2020 presidential election, Donald Trump and many around him, including certain other elected Republican officials, intentionally breached their oath to the Constitution: they ignored the rulings of dozens of courts, plotted to overturn a lawful election, and provoked a violent attack on our Capitol.

This book clearly shows what we are up against at this moment in history. There is so much at stake.

The Torture Never Stops
Revisado: 10-19-22
Enjoyed the story but by midway there was too much abuse and let downs that I couldn’t wait for it to end. The last half hour of the book was a relief. Yes, it’s great to read of the strength and determination of the women, but the ongoing pain and abuse of the main characters, described in such detail, was too much for me.
As much as I’d like to recommend this book, I can’t say I will.
‘The Four Winds’ is another hard story of survival I do remember well, and can recommend.

Historia
Marie-Laure lives with her father in Paris near the Museum of Natural History, where he works as the master of its thousands of locks. When she is six, Marie-Laure goes blind and her father builds a perfect miniature of their neighborhood so she can memorize it by touch and navigate her way home. When she is 12, the Nazis occupy Paris and father and daughter flee to the walled citadel of Saint-Malo, where Marie-Laure’s reclusive great-uncle lives in a tall house by the sea. With them they carry what might be the museum’s most valuable and dangerous jewel.

The Future is Now
Revisado: 09-09-21
Wonderfully written book that brings the Science of Genetic Engineering into clear understanding of its real world application and the future ethical dilemmas we will have to grapple with.
Learning about Jennifer Doudna’s life’s work and how Chrisper technology has already begun to change the world, has altered how I think about the future.
By the end of the book, I’m feeling hopeful that Biotechnology has the potential to result in real good for all of humanity.

Grueling
Revisado: 08-25-21
Wonderful but grueling. I know I could never have read this book. The characters names alone had me confused throughout the story, yet I kept listening because of the amazing writing. If it wasn’t for the marvelous reader of this book I would have stopped.

Between his work on the 2014 Audible Audiobook of the Year, Hamlet, Prince of Denmark: A Novel, and his performance of Classic Love Poems, narrator Richard Armitage ( The Hobbit, Hannibal) has quickly become a listener favorite. Now, in this defining performance of Charles Dickens' classic David Copperfield, Armitage lends his unique voice and interpretation, truly inhabiting each character and bringing real energy to the life of one of Dickens' most famous characters.

Five stars for DC
Revisado: 03-21-21
We choose this book for our Bookclub reading after deciding to go back to the classics. I wasn’t thrilled to say the least, especially once I saw how long the book was. British literature has never appealed to me.
What I know is, I never would have read this book, but having it read to me was wonderful.
I finished it just now grateful for having done so after enjoying it as much as I did.
This audio production is the most well done I’ve heard to date.
It is the creation of distinct voices for each character that bring them to life in all their fullness. I watched David grow from a boy to a man, knowing all of the friends and family who loved him.
Thanks Audible!
