Historia
In Hunt, Gather, Parent, Doucleff sets out with her three-year-old daughter in tow to learn and practice parenting strategies from families in three of the world’s most venerable communities: Maya families in Mexico, Inuit families above the Arctic Circle, and Hadzabe families in Tanzania. She sees that these cultures don’t have the same problems with children that Western parents do.

Really helpful
Revisado: 02-02-24
I really enjoyed this book, great information, has already improved my parenting style and habits. I love when authors read their own work, you can hear what parts are really important by how they emphasize. I love that this author shares her own story, it made the book more relatable.

So much good information
Revisado: 06-12-23
This is a gorgeous book, and is full of really good helpful information. I learned so much, not just about yoga and race but also about being a human in a complex world. This book is really powerful and I plan to read it many times over. Beautifully narrated too!

Historia
Instead of being merely the receiver of the parents' psychological and spiritual legacy, children function as ushers of the parents' development. Parents unwittingly pass on an inheritance of psychological pain and emotional shallowness. To handle the behavior that results, traditional books on parenting abound with clever techniques for control and quick fixes for dysfunction. In Dr. Shefali Tsabary's conscious approach to parenting, however, children serve as mirrors of their parents' forgotten self.

A beautiful book
Revisado: 02-26-21
I really appreciated learning about a mindfulness approach to parenting. It’s reasonable and wise. The author offers many helpful examples and tools that drive home the points. I learned so much, and hope to be able to apply the lessons when my little one arrives. The narration is clear and well-paced.

Historia
Medical Apartheid is the first and only comprehensive history of medical experimentation on African Americans. Starting with the earliest encounters between black Americans and Western medical researchers and the racist pseudoscience that resulted, it details the ways both slaves and freedmen were used in hospitals for experiments conducted without their knowledge - a tradition that continues today within some black populations.

An important book
Revisado: 05-10-17
What a rich read, full of important facts and excellent contextual framing. As a public health professional, I was surprised to find out how much of the information in this book was omitted from my education. I feel as though his book should be an essential read for all public health and clinical professionals. Without understanding the history, there is no path forward.

Historia
Bernadette Fox is notorious. To her Microsoft-guru husband, she's a fearlessly opinionated partner; to fellow private-school mothers in Seattle, she's a disgrace; to design mavens, she's a revolutionary architect, and to 15-year-old Bee, she is a best friend and, simply, Mom.
Then Bernadette disappears. It began when Bee aced her report card and claimed her promised reward: a family trip to Antarctica. But Bernadette's intensifying allergy to Seattle - and people in general - has made her so agoraphobic that a virtual assistant in India now runs her most basic errands.

"I've experienced a whole lot the last few years and I have a lot to share. So I hope that you'll take a moment to sit back, relax and enjoy the words I've put together for you in this book. I think you'll find I've left no stone unturned, no door unopened, no window unbroken, no rug unvacuumed, no ivories untickled. What I'm saying is, let us begin, shall we?" (Ellen DeGeneres)

I love you Ellen, but...
Revisado: 12-13-13
Would you try another book from Ellen DeGeneres and/or Ellen DeGeneres?
I would be reluctant to.
What was most disappointing about Ellen DeGeneres’s story?
This book was not that funny! I love Ellen, and I find her career to be inspirational. However, this book was unstructured, not funny, and lacked in content as well. She didn't seem to share much at all in this book.
Have you listened to any of Ellen DeGeneres’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
no
Was Seriously...I'm Kidding worth the listening time?
I would have rather saved my credit.

Historia
Before Liz Lemon, before Weekend Update, before Sarah Palin, Tina Fey was just a young girl with a dream: A recurring stress dream that she was being chased through a local airport by her middle-school gym teacher. She also had a dream that one day she would be a comedian on TV. She has seen both these dreams come true. At last, Tina Fey's story can be told. From her youthful days as a vicious nerd to her tour of duty on Saturday Night Live. Tina Fey reveals all, and proves what we've always suspected: You're no one until someone calls you bossy.

I listened to this book during my train rides to and from work, and more than once laughed out loud in spite of my best efforts to contain myself. Tina Fey is so funny, and this book is pretty awesome. It was great to get some insights into her career and success. Highly recommend!
