Historia
Elizabeth, Joyce, Ron and Ibrahim—the Thursday Murder Club—are still riding high off their recent real-life murder case and are looking forward to a bit of peace and quiet at Cooper’s Chase, their posh retirement village. But they are out of luck. An unexpected visitor—an old pal of Elizabeth’s (or perhaps more than just a pal?)—arrives, desperate for her help. He has been accused of stealing diamonds worth millions from the wrong men and he’s seriously on the lam.

Twisty plot, fantastic characters!
Revisado: 11-20-24
You usually get one or the other: great plot but stereotypical characters, or intricately drawn characters but predictable story. Luckily, with all TMC books, you get both. And of course wonderful narration/performances by Lesley Manvile.

Harriet and Wyn have been the perfect couple since they met in college—they go together like salt and pepper, honey and tea, lobster and rolls. Except, now—for reasons they’re still not discussing—they don’t. They broke up five months ago. And still haven’t told their best friends.

Wow. This book sets feminism back by about 100 years. It’s boring; the characters aren’t very likable and the ending is the biggest cop-out I’ve read in a long time. I really loved Book Lovers and I still do love her humor-the only saving grace of this mess.

Historia
Patrick, or Gay Uncle Patrick (GUP, for short), has always loved his niece, Maisie, and nephew, Grant. That is, he loves spending time with them when they come out to Palm Springs for weeklong visits, or when he heads home to Connecticut for the holidays. But in terms of caretaking and relating to two children, no matter how adorable, Patrick is, honestly, overwhelmed. So when tragedy strikes and Maisie and Grant lose their mother and Patrick's brother has a health crisis of his own, Patrick finds himself suddenly taking on the role of primary guardian.

Hated the overacting narration. Got in the way of an otherwise sweet story, despite the endless cliches.

A lesser version of The Family Stone
Revisado: 11-14-22
For a book set at the holiday and about family, there is little warmth, no humor and only one character likable enough to root for.
Also: For people triggered by infertility issues, please avoid.

Historia
When ex-detective inspector Daniel Hawthorne and his sidekick, author Anthony Horowitz, are invited to an exclusive literary festival on Alderney, an idyllic island off the south coast of England, they don’t expect to find themselves in the middle of murder investigation - or to be trapped with a cold-blooded killer in a remote place with a murky, haunted past.

A Whiny Mess
Revisado: 11-16-21
Such a disappointment! Ive loved the magpie series and enjoyed the other 2 in this series. This one, however, felt like Horowitz had to begrudgingly carry out a 3-book deal despite having nothing new to say. The tired trope of the "murder on an island" aside, the whodunit clue might as well have had a neon red arrow pointing at it, and I'm not the best at guessing these things. my main complaint however, is just how whiny and insufferable the author makes his fiction-version. The character complains about his life (of privilege), feels sorry for himself and entitled to, what, I'm not sure. more fame? I am fairly sure the real-life author is delightful, great company and appreciates his notoriety. I hope this series will be put out of its misery at this installment. (Rory Kinnear is fantastic as always though.)

Fun, but...
Revisado: 07-21-21
Loved the insider look at Hollywood and the fantastic performance by the author. The story is fun but there are so many "and suddenly I realized I'd hit it all wrong" and "what on Earth had I been thinking?" that you could turn them into a drinking fame. The character seems smart but is either stupid or naive or had never ever read a thriller in her life. But seriously, don't let that stop you from enjoying the story!

Historia
Retired publisher Susan Ryeland is living the good life. She is running a small hotel on a Greek island with her long-term boyfriend Andreas. It should be everything she's always wanted. But is it? She's exhausted with the responsibilities of making everything work on an island where nothing ever does, and truth be told, she's beginning to miss London. And then the Trehearnes come to stay. The strange story they tell about an unfortunate murder that took place on the same day and in the same hotel in which their daughter was married fascinates Susan and piques her editor's instincts.

Delightful!
Revisado: 12-01-20
This was such a fun story, or should I say three stories? There are 2 Atticus Punt mysteries within the overall mystery: one short and more of an example of something, and one much more developed. I always feel just as if I’ve had an excellent four course meal after Horowitz. Can’t wait for the next installment of anything he writes!

Heard about this in NY Times Book reviews and it is one of the best books I’ve read/listened to in the last several years. Quirky, funny, moving. Fantastic narrator as well. I immediately ordered other Kevin Wilson books.
