Historia
Leading a cultural revolution driven by identity politics and so-called 'social justice', the new puritanism movement is best understood as a religion - one that makes grand claims to moral purity and tolerates no dissent. In The New Puritans, Andrew Doyle powerfully examines the underlying belief-systems of this ideology and how it has risen so rapidly to dominate all major political, cultural and corporate institutions. He reasons that, to move forward, we need to understand where these New Puritans came from and what they hope to achieve.

Excellent overview of the destructive power of a know it all elitist class who have dominated and demonized so many good people and have succeeded in destroying healthy debate so essential in a democracy

Historia
If you asked most people what forces led to today’s unprecedented income inequality and financial crashes, no one would say the Federal Reserve. For most of its history, the Fed has enjoyed the fawning adoration of the press. When the economy grew, it was credited to the Fed. When the economy imploded in 2008, the Fed got credit for rescuing us.

Fantastic and thoughtful explanation of how the Fed works and why our financial system is horribly skewed to help the wealthy while crushing everyone else

My Story
Revisado: 10-30-21
I went through the crisis, lost my home eventually after continuing to pay the mortgage for years. I too believed Obama's speeches. I didn't see how it would be possible for the government to abandon innocent home owners in a crises not of their making.
This series is so informative and I have basically read and seen most of what has been produced about the 2008 crises. I learned new information on just how much illegal activity went into the foreclosures, after the illegality of the creation of many mortgages, my own included.
David Sirota is a wonderful , honest and hard working journalist and this country is lucky to have him. He and other journalists at The Daily Poster continue to work on behalf of average Americans.
I hope millions listen to this, it's such important information and we are still living with the aftermath.

Historia
Both George Orwell and Winston Churchill came close to death in the mid-1930s - Orwell shot in the neck in a trench line in the Spanish Civil War and Churchill struck by a car in New York City. If they'd died then, history would scarcely remember them. At the time, Churchill was a politician on the outs, his loyalty to his class and party suspect. Orwell was a mildly successful novelist, to put it generously. No one would have predicted that by the end of the 20th century they would be considered two of the most important people in British history.

Historia
Rarely does a work of history contain startling implications for the present, but in The People, No, Thomas Frank pulls off that explosive effect by showing us that everything we think we know about populism is wrong. Today "populism" is seen as a frightening thing, a term pundits use to describe the racist philosophy of Donald Trump and European extremists. But this is a mistake. The real story of populism is an account of enlightenment and liberation; it is the story of American democracy itself, of its ever-widening promise of a decent life for all.

Historia
In this characteristically turbocharged new book, celebrated Rolling Stone journalist Matt Taibbi provides an insider's guide to the variety of ways today's mainstream media tells us lies. In the internet age, the press have mastered the art of monetizing anger, paranoia, and distrust. Taibbi, who has spent much of his career covering elections in which this kind of manipulative activity is most egregious, provides a rich taxonomic survey of American political journalism's dirty tricks.

Grateful for Matt Taibbi. Every book of his that I have finished has been informative but also funny. The humor is essential because the actions of the powerful are so disturbing they make you want to scream.

Historia
General Stonewall Jackson was like no one anyone had ever seen. In April of 1862 he was merely another Confederate general with only a single battle credential in an army fighting in what seemed to be a losing cause. By middle June he had engineered perhaps the greatest military campaign in American history and was one of the most famous men in the Western World. He had given the Confederate cause what it had recently lacked: hope.

Incredible!
Revisado: 10-21-15
This is an incredible story, one that I knew very little about, though of course I have heard of Stonewall Jackson, I can only guess that his story being tied to the cause of the Confederacy has become politically incorrect. How tragic that is because this was an incredible man!
The writing is so beautiful, so descriptive and satisfying, the author is very talented and I will look for other works of his. The narrator also did a superb job, I don't really enjoy books about war, but this book is about our history as a nation and one man who played a monumental role at an historical turning point, how sad that the good of some southerners been disregarded due to the arrogance of the North. We'd be a better nation if we would stop, read and appreciate people like Stonewall Jackson.

An historic literary event: the publication of a newly discovered novel, the earliest known work from Harper Lee, the beloved, best-selling author of the Pulitzer Prize-winning classic To Kill a Mockingbird. Originally written in the mid-1950s, Go Set a Watchman was the novel Harper Lee first submitted to her publishers before To Kill a Mockingbird. Assumed to have been lost, the manuscript was discovered in late 2014.

Revisado: 08-19-15
I truly enjoyed this book. it provides great insight into the mind of Nell Harper. she loved her hometown and the South and her people. There are great lessons in this novel though it seems the reviewers missed them, they only came up with Atticus being a bigot, so one dimensional and sadly off the mark as to the real lessons this book offers, as insightful today as when it was written.
