lying & regency......

I am not a big fan of characters lying to each other, especially when its just because they don't know how to tell the truth, or knows that the truth will be a detriment to the person who lied to begin with. Crap happens, pretending that it didn't doesn't help anyone. Its called being an adult... I am also not a big fan of weak heroins that are sooo physically attracted to a man that they throw all common sense out the window, have sex, then regret it after, and still does the same thing next time. Using sex to distract a character from getting answers, or from having to give the answers feels wrong, or at least not genuine, and adds a weird kind of tension that just didn't work for this book or for me. overall story was ok, narration was pretty good. It should also be noted, as the publishers summary said nothing about this, that almost all of the female characters in this book act and wear regency style clothing. Like out of a Jane Austin book. This was a fairly major plot point for the female characters, that was not mentioned in the publishers summary at all. Wish I would have known before, as I am really not a big fan of the regency romance thing, and wouldn't have purchased it.

liked Tulsie until I found out why she lied.

Tulsie's was a selfish coward who used an incredibly lame excuse and some serious mental gymnastics to justify not telling Pike he was a father. then proceeded to lie to all the other people she supposedly loved for almost 7 years. when her deception was found out the reactions were really not believable. I get it....the power of forgiveness and love is beautiful, but in this story it left me feeling like tulsie was an incredibly selfish and cowardly person, who really didn't understand love at all. especially if she was still ok with lying to Pike when they got back together before he found out he had a daughter. and lying to her daughter as well, seriously how would do you justify not telling you daughter that the man who is going to raise you, is legit your bio-dad? I also hate feeling like the only reason Pike did find out was their daughters serious car accident, and the need for a blood donation. overall I felt like the moral of the story is that it's ok to lie to the father of your child, you child, and all of you friends and family for 7 years, for a lame non-reason because you will totally be forgiven and live your HEA with no bad things happening and no need for any kind of grand gesture on tulsie's part.

Story was amazing! great flow from beginning to end. what isn't to love about a snarky, slightly insane female main character, or her alpha male. narrator did a great job with all the voices. totally worth a credit.

not better or worse than the previous. I don't happen to be a big fan of the narrator. I just never imagined Nicci's voice that school-girl-ish. anyways. more the same of what to expect from Mr. Goodkind. just seems like he hasn't been able to captured the essence of the first S.O.T epic saga. I will still probably give the next one a listen though.

Alyssa Bresnahan is my new favorite narrator! Brandon Sanderson has written another beautiful book, I only hope he someday decides to write a continuation, or a novella.
