The modern master of the cyberthriller is at it again with his latest installment "Influx". Great book with interesting premise of suppressed technology and the agency which is attempting to prevent such advancements. Jon Grady is a physicist who is responsible for the latest break thru and the target of the latest horrific containment efforts. An interesting look at "tinfoil" conspiracy theories gone mad and one man's quest for resistance from an agency whose motives are as concerning as that which they are attempting to protect society from. Great book...check it out! Then go back and read all other Daniel Suarez novels.

Ascends Nicely!

Solid book with very interesting premise that hooks you fairly early. Garrett Reilly was a quirky yet likable character who is able to discern patterns that aren't easily distinguishable and that is both a gift and a curse. Easy way to make money yet equally easy to get in trouble, I guess it depends on what you consider trouble as the lines are blurred here as a man and team work to determine if one man can really make a difference in the world. In this new day and age of technology, we learn a small team may be able to do just that (for better or worse). Interested in a possible sequel...

Michael is a gamer. And like most gamers, he almost spends more time on the VirtNet than in the actual world. The VirtNet offers total mind and body immersion, and it's addictive. Thanks to technology, anyone with enough money can experience fantasy worlds, risk their life without the chance of death, or just hang around with Virt-friends. And the more hacking skills you have, the more fun. Why bother following the rules when most of them are dumb, anyway?

Ready Player None! Still worth @ listen 3.5 stars
Revisado: 04-03-14
Any additional comments?
Interesting book; however, please do not expect "Ready Player One" as this will in no way compare to that experience. Book starts off fairly interesting with VR concept and has its moments. I got a little bored in the middle as it dragged with redundant action sequences - yet I was glad I hung in there. Not that the ending cannot be predicted, still was pleasantly surprised that it did and it brought nice resolution to this tale. 3.5 stars and worth a listen if you like the genre.

Historia
Given the importance of what they do, and the controversies that often surround them, and the violent people they sometimes confront, it is remarkable that in the history of this country only four active federal judges have been murdered. Judge Raymond Fawcett has just become number five.... Nothing is as it seems and everything’s fair game in this wickedly clever new novel from John Grisham, the undisputed master of the legal thriller.

The year is 2074 and technological advancements have led to the creation of the most advanced secondary school in the world. Imagine viewing history in real-time with revolving viewpoints, where you control every aspect and are able to watch the most important events unfold in front of you. Imagine a virtual system that allows you to become an avatar and experience the world as an animal. All things are possible at Cragbridge Hall…
Enter the grandchildren of the school’s founder and inventor of these wondrous technologies and this sets an adolescent struggle to prove you belong. But it doesn’t take long before this desire to measure up against one’s peers turns into an adventure in which failure is not an option and failure to measure up could have catastrophic results.
Very entertaining it’s ability to weave history into the adventure and overall a great fun listen for all those young at heart!!! Highly recommend!

Follow your Instinct...
Revisado: 01-27-10
Killer Instinct is another great title by Joseph finder. It follows a lead character who has been getting slightly pushed around until he meets a new friend. Not exactly plausible, this story does a good job at building up the inevitable destruction of a friendship being built on lies and deceit. That being said, it is still a nice ride to watch a young man go from relative obscurity to top of the company. Wouldn't we all like someone working behind the scenes, gathering intelligence and helping us climb the corporate ladder. But once at the top, the person holding the ladder often wants to shake you from it and watch you fall all the way down!!!!! Nice book..unrealistic...but solid

Excellent Listen
Revisado: 01-27-10
I am a big fan of Joseph Finder ever since I listened to Paranoia (a must listen as well if you have not already done so) and I really enjoyed this title. I enjoyed the narration by Scott Brick, as always and I like Finder's ability to create a "young" corporate thriller that captures the business landscape that many of us find ourselves in. Often times corporate dramas are set in old, dark and dry settings whereas his backdrops effortlessly weave small town America with big money, high stakes corporations. His protagonists are always well developed and likable and leave you rooting for them to pull through. Well done and a must listen!

Barely Survived myself....
Revisado: 01-27-10
First off, I love Dean Koontz, but that being said...this book was tough to get through. One of the only titles this past year that I contemplated not finishing. I stay listening in hopes of a great twist or fantastic finish, but was left wondering why I made this purchase. Again, I love Dean Koontz, and was excited about the premise of this story but I would strongly suggest you find another Koontz title (maybe Lightning) or take your chances with another book. I do not recommend this one!

Not bad...but not great
Revisado: 01-27-10
I really enjoy Joseph Finder and his blend of corporate thrillers. Reading the synopsis of this story, I knew going into it, that it did not fit this traditional mold. I thought the story was solid and a decent listen, but nothing spectacular as some of his other titles. If you have extra credits to spend, then give it a shot...but please take it on face value and let's not talk about realism etc. It is after all, a story about a kick butt young suit, taking on a trained group of killers!

Accidental Purchase!
Revisado: 01-27-10
I was looking at a couple of time travel titles and stumbled across this short yet witty time travel experience. It provides a rather unique view of time travel and focuses mainly on the characters rather than the technology beyond the phenomena. This book combined humor, religion, holograms etc to weave a rather unique tapestry of an experiment gone wild and in the end was a solid listen. Slightly short however, so you must debate whether you want to use your credit or not!!!
