Just a heads up. There are only about 6 hours of the new book here. The other 10 hours is behind the scenes/extra type stuff that basically recaps what has happened in the past books and gives a couple of extras. Unfortunately, Shannon Messenger basically says in this book you need to read/hear this novella to set up/know what is happening in the next book.

The new novella is okay, but nothing great. Now another wait for the next book.

Caitlin Kelly does a good job as always with the narration, but there were a couple of times when it seemed she forgot which character was speaking and ends up using the wrong voice or forgets to change the voice she is using for the next character speaking. Otherwise a good performance, but it stops me from giving the performance 5 stars.

Sorry Wil, but the original narration done by R. C. Bray was a lot better. It seemed to fit the story and character better and the voices of the other characters were better. Story gets 5 stars but Wil's reading really lets it down.

Fun YA Spy/Cozy Mystery Book

This book reminds me a lot of some of the Stuart Gibbs books. A little bit of humor and a bit of mystery mixed with a bit of outlandishness. Overall it is kind of a young Sherlock Holmes crossed with Get Smart, Fun Jungle, and Spy School. Brian Holden does a good job at telling the story. I can't say anything really stands out as being particularly great but nothing stood out as bad about the performance either. Either way I would recommend this fun book for kids and adults both.

Just a warning, this is listed as a middle grade / young teen book for 11-13 but in the first couple minutes there was the S word and F word. Now some people might not care about this, but I just thought this should be disclosed since it is listed as an ages 11-13 book.

Wanted to like it, but it's not like the prequel

First I have to say, I'm not female and I'm not a tween/teen either. I got the prequel simply because it was a free book from Audible Originals for the month. I had enjoyed the Spy School series, so I got the prequel and I was pleasantly surprised.
Unfortunately, this one isn't like the prequel. First the narrator isn't as good as Rebecca Solder's job in the prequel, and in spots just gets plain annoying. Also, the story was a lot more tween soap opera on this one as well. There was a lot of character development in the short prequel but everything is more flat here. While the prequel showed good morals, camaraderie, and friendships, this one seemed to just be about a bunch of boy crazy girls basically stalking some poor guy. Overall the story here is even more cliche and predictable. While I thought the prequel was a good book for everyone, this is really just for boy crazy tweens.

First I have to say, I'm not female and I'm not a tween/teen either. I got this simply because it was a free book from Audible Originals for the month. I had enjoyed the Spy School series and this seemed like it could be similar. I was pleasantly surprised.

The reader does a great job with all of the characters and it is a fun light hearted story. Yes the story is a bit cliche and predictable, but it was still fun. Part Spy School, Part Harry Potter in an all girls school. I haven't read/heard of the Gallagher Girls books other than seeing them pop up in my recommended list from time to time. The only issue with this book was how short it was.

The book is interesting and has a story that, while a bit predictable, has a couple of twists to it to keep it interesting. The narration is mostly good, but the narrator that does Malik's POV is just annoying. That is the only think keeping the performance from being 5 stars. If you can get past his chapters, it is overall an excellent performance.

Overall this isn't a bad book. Ramon de Ocampo does a great job as always with all of the voices. Overall the characters are unique, well developed, and have their own personalities. Only problem is this book seems like it is about twice as long as it probably should be. Sections just seem to drag themselves out without moving the story along. Overall a fairly good book though.

Great fun book with a light mystery to it. Gibson Frazier does a great job with the characters. I only wish the first book "Belly Up" was available on audible.

Bad Narration!

What disappointed you about The Hammer of Thor?

Kieran Culkin! The Hotel Valhalla Guide he narrated wasn't bad, but man this one was. I had this pre-ordered and was looking forward to it but as soon as I started it, I had to keep checking to see that the playback wasn't sped up. The story starts in a cafe, and it sounded like he had drunk about 12 shots of espresso before doing the narration.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Kieran Culkin?

Almost anyone. Christopher Guetig was okay, though many didn't like him he was 100 times better than Kieran Culkin.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

I didn't get far enough to see.
