What did you love best about The Disappearance of Winter's Daughter?

A nice addition to the Hadrian and Royce story, with assorted heroines, unlikely heroes and dastardly villains.

What does Tim Gerard Reynolds and Michael J. Sullivan bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Tim Gerard Reynolds is a master at his craft. Listening to his narration and his different voices for different characters is always a treat. Author and narrator are a terrific combination.

Any additional comments?

Highly recommend, along with all of the series.

What made the experience of listening to Dawn of Wonder the most enjoyable?

The narrator Tim Gerard Reynolds is fantastic. I think he could make reading the phone book exciting. His versatility with accents is a pleasure to listen to and his reading voice is one of the best on Audible.

Would you recommend Dawn of Wonder to your friends? Why or why not?

No, I would not recommend Dawn of Wonder to a friend. The book needs a heavy handed editor. At 30 hours, it could easily be cut in half, with the resulting story crisper, more cohesive and more interesting. It felt like a series of short stories, strung together, rotating around the central character. While the overall effect kind was marginally acceptable (I did give it 3 stars) a good editor could have made it a 5 star story. As a caveat, I find Brandon Sanderson e.x.t.r.e.m.e.l.y. long winded. If you like his drawn out stories, Dawn of Wonder will probably appeal. If you prefer punchier and shorter, give Dawn of Wonder a pass.

What does Tim Gerard Reynolds bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Tim is one of the best I have ever heard for narration. He is the reason I bought the book.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No.

Any additional comments?

John Connolly's central character in this book is similar to the boy hero/protagonist in his Infernals series -- a young man going through the trials and tribulations of determining who he is and his place in the world. The story tell is rich and at its heart is the triumph of good in a boy's soul over the forces of evil. Terrific narration brings the characters to life, and the ending was very satisfying. Well worth a listen.

Any additional comments?

The story of a young boy and his faithful little dog battling the minions of hell continues. The writing is superb -- this work of John Connolly's can be compared to P.G. Wodehouse in providing a belly laugh or two on nearly every page. Tim Gerard Reynolds provides masterful narration, and the entire effect is just terrific. Highly Recommended.

If you could sum up Just One Damned Thing After Another in three words, what would they be?

Terrific funny time traveling story

What other book might you compare Just One Damned Thing After Another to and why?

Time and Again

Any additional comments?

I love love this series and Jodi Taylor. Her premise of a time travelling think tank is original, and the character development thorough and well done.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

I love Raymond Feist's books and was really looking forward to hearing this recorded version. Unfortunately, the narrator spoiled the story. Other reviewers have accurately detailed the narrators shortfalls. Suffice to say this is a recorded version to skip.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

The narrator spoke to quickly. There was minimal difference in his voice between characters male or female, and as another reviewer commented, when there was a difference it was forced making it even worse. I have nothing positive to say about this narrator's performance. It ruined the story for me and for a number of other reviewers. A casting director somewhere made a terrible choice.

Reliably diverting and engrossing

As with any Patrick Robinson books I've listened to, this was full of military themes and personnel, and a dastardly plot by evil doers to commit mischief on the US of A. Not being a right wing conservative who thinks Dick Cheney walks on water, the far right political bent can be a little tedious. But the story telling is terrific, and his characters, while rather one-sided, always leave you rooting for the good guys. One my favorite lines from his books is the Navy Seals philosophy that there are few problems in the world that cannot be solved with enough high explosive. If you like action and military themes, you'll enjoy this (or any other) Patrick Robinson book.

I usually find Dave Berry's articles and short blurbs amusing, only occassionally reading it and not laughing. After half an hour of listening to this and not laughing once, I gave it up. Perhaps it's just not my sense of humor, but it was a disappointment.
