Historia
Shocking and controversial when it was first published in 1939, Steinbeck's Pulitzer prize-winning epic The Grapes of Wrath remains his undisputed masterpiece. Set against the background of Dust Bowl Oklahoma and Californian migrant life, it tells of Tom Joad and his family, who, like thousands of others, are forced to travel west in search of the promised land. Their story is one of false hopes, thwarted desires, and broken dreams, yet out of their suffering Steinbeck created a drama that is intensely human, yet majestic in its scale and moral vision.

Give this narrator a raise

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I owe a lot of it to the narrator. He truly brought the characters to life.

Historia

Superb narration and first half. Politics beware
Revisado: 02-01-16
Where does Star Wars: Darth Plagueis rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
This is the first Star Wars book that I have listened to. I thoroughly enjoyed the first half. The pacing was tremendous and I was at the edge of my seat.
I am currently coming to an area which as others have mentioned is characterized by intense galactic politics. I am not that into the SW Galaxy that I can follow this or be interested in it, so I am at this point losing interest in the story.
Not sure at this point if I will finish reading this book.
What does Daniel Davis bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Where can I start with Daniel Davis? He is the shining light of the story! His narration is simply fantastic.

Mickey Haller gets the text, "Call me ASAP - 187," and the California penal code for murder immediately gets his attention. Murder cases have the highest stakes and the biggest paydays, and they always mean Haller has to be at the top of his game. When Mickey learns that the victim was his own former client, a prostitute he thought he had rescued and put on the straight and narrow path, he knows he is on the hook for this one. He soon finds out that she was back in LA and back in the life.

I just could not finish this one.
Revisado: 12-17-15
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
I listened to a good 4+ hours of this audio book. Usually I like Michael Connelly, but I just couldn't get into this book for the life of me. The characters were not sympathetic or interesting, and the Mickey Haller didn't really demonstrate as much acumen and wit as usual. This book is investigation-heavy, and reads more like a Bosch mystery than a legal book.
What about Peter Giles’s performance did you like?
His voice is very deep and pleasing. But all his characters sound similar. Doesn't modify his tone much for women.
