Historia
The shocking tale told in How I Helped O. J. Get Away with Murder is unlike anything you've read before. It isn't Mike Gilbert's "version" of what happened'; it's the unvarnished truth - the truth about O. J., the murders, and the infamous trial, not as Gilbert imagined or would like it to be, but how it actually was.

Narrator sounds like robot
Revisado: 02-03-25
It's hard to get past the narrator's robotic reading. The only inflection I heard in his voice was when he said ni**as. He seemed to perk up and say the N-word gleefully. As far as the story goes, Mike is pretty conceited. He seemed to be an opportunist and kept a lot of OJ's stuff. How can he remember every conversation with OJ from 35 years ago? I'm not sure this guy can be believed.

Historia
Miranda isn't happy when sullen orphan Abby Chandler comes to live with her family. But Miranda's anger turns to shock when she learns the girl's horrible secret: Abby's parents and sisters were killed in a house fire in this very town - more than 300 years ago. Somehow Abby survived the fire and has been living in a virtual limbo ever since.

Not a satisfying ending
Revisado: 10-06-23
For all of the buildup with the Phoenix and Abbey, the ending falls flat. The solution is too simple, the plot formulaic. As characteristic in all of Reiss’ books: The mom is strong, independent and successful, dad is a secondary character, just adding a sidekick for mom. There’s a teen age “friend-lover-romance” budding, completely paint by numbers. The main character embodies some wonderful ability to time travel but stumbles through the story trying to solve a transparent mystery. The reader comes to conclusions chapters before the main character. Not a good story.
The narrator is awful. She reads in a wooden, monotone voice. I listened to another book by Reiss and it was the same narrator and unfortunately she uses the same voices. I guess the author got a 3-for-1 deal with this narrator or something.

Historia
It was one of the most searing images of the twentieth century: two young boys, two princes, walking behind their mother’s coffin as the world watched in sorrow—and horror. As Princess Diana was laid to rest, billions wondered what Prince William and Prince Harry must be thinking and feeling—and how their lives would play out from that point on.

Excellent, I had no idea
Revisado: 02-06-23
I truly had no idea that this is what Meghan and Harry were
dealing with. I just thought he was endlessly going on about whinging about his treatment in the press. Now I see. Sorry Harry and Meghan, people can be pretty lousy. I hope life gets better for you.

Robotic Narration
Revisado: 01-01-23
I have read this book yearly for nearly 20 years and never have I read it in the morose, robotic tone that this narrator has done. It makes it almost unlistenable. The narrator’s cadence is off, she ends each sentence with an audible exclamation point. The only time the narrator animates is when she recites dialogue. Too bad, this is one of my favorite books. I’m pretty disappointed.

Gritty and Beautifully Ugly
Revisado: 11-05-22
Chandler is Matty is Matty is Chandler. No surprise there. I was surprised however to hear about Perry's mommy issues and his feelings of abandonment. A lot of adults say kids bounce back and recover from childhood traumas but apparently not. Perry comes off pretentious and a bit snooty but his struggle with drug and alcohol abuse is so real, I forgive him. I learned a lot from this book. I learned that addiction is always waiting for you to f--k up so it can rear its ugly head. I learned that it takes a village and within that village there must be a shaman that informs the know-nothings that it's not as simple as rehab or "just quitting." Matty, if you dare read your reviews, please know there are parents out here doing our best and often we don't feel like we're enough either. I hope you find unconditional love in the most unexpected way. Thanks for the book, (you have no idea how much I needed it).

Cosplay WAS a thing back then
Revisado: 10-03-22
Love the tea but Holly, don't be naive. You did not invent cosplay and dressing theme. Rocky Horror Picture show? Kawaii? Lol. My nerdy brothers were doing cosplay back in the 80s when you were just a tot. 😁

What did I just listen to?
Revisado: 01-16-21
The narrator missed a lot of cues, often reading with exaggerated emphasis when the sentence called for calm or stealth. It’s weird. Maybe it’s a regional dialect but to speak through your teeth conveys anger and the sentence literally said, “Remmi said calmly.” Smh. I’ve heard better acting on TikTok.
