this is just ego stroking the book
Revisado: 10-03-24
What even is this book? Why is it the third story and the second that has very little to do with the first? I want to finish the book just in case a miracle happens and it becomes good but the first hour is just bad. like really bad.

Historia
Lee Cargill is the head of Q5, a secret organization that can send objects a split second back into the past. And while this seems utterly useless, it turns out to be the most powerful capability the world has ever known. Those who control it can transform civilization - or destroy it entirely. When Cargill sends Aaron Blake, his most formidable operative, on an unauthorized mission to destroy Kim Jong-un, all hell breaks loose. As Blake battles for his life, his chances of thwarting the North Korean tyrant plummet. But they're about to get far worse.

It's just all so bleh
Revisado: 11-17-23
The first book in the series was good, sure it was cheesey and cliche at times but it was pretty good. but this second book is just not good. Everything is just predictable and campy but not in a fun way. This is one of the only books I have "hate read" or really "hate listened" by the time I was halfway through I had lost interest but finished it just to get it done and over with. little did I expect an hour long end chapter where the author rants about not getting a refrigerator delivered on time. Like, brother, no one cares.
the narrator was great though.

I made it 12 chapters before I gave up.
Revisado: 12-24-22
This book is just bad. The narrator is fine but the writing is just garbage. Multiple times in these first 12 chapters I realized I had absolutely no idea what was happening. It was just confusing. It also feels like the writer wrote the story then took every other word, put it in a thesaurus, and used a larger word just to sound more sophisticated. Which doesn't work. It just makes the writing confusing and pointless.

I would love more from this universe but if not that's fine as well. I found myself looking for excuses to listen to this book. That's always a sign of a great book. Plus Ray Porter is always an amazing narrator.

Historia
When COVID-19 sweeps through New York City, Jamie Gray is stuck as a dead-end driver for food-delivery apps. That is, until Jamie makes a delivery to an old acquaintance, Tom, who works at what he calls “an animal rights organization”. Tom’s team needs a last-minute grunt to handle things on their next field visit. Jamie, eager to do anything, immediately signs on. What Tom doesn't tell Jamie is that the animals his team cares for are not here on Earth. Not our Earth, at at least. In an alternate dimension, dinosaur-like creatures named Kaiju roam a warm and human-free world.

I am biased by the narrator and author but...
Revisado: 03-25-22
This is easily one of my favorite new books. I pre-ordered this a while before it was released and forgot about it. So it was a pleasant surprise to find. but this book was amazing. It was one I found myself finding excuses to listen to and thinking about when I couldn't listen. Anyways I am amazed this book is so good. I am listening to the outro and author notes and this makes the book even more amazing and surprising it's this good considering the conditions it was written in and how rushed. Hopefully we get a continuation of this story/world or a new scalzi book soon.

this is awful. super cheesy. clearly meant for teenagers. I mean one of the characters is named "McCool".... within 10 minutes they talk about sex saying "the sex isn't bad..." It's just bad. It's like something I'd write as a 14 year old.

Revisado: 08-07-21
I started this book with no knowledge of it and just wanted to spend a credit on something. At first I thought it was another generic sci-fi book but I should have expected more since it Luke and Luke. I found myself looking forward to hitting play. kinda stoked to have a new series.

Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

I don't want it to end.
Revisado: 05-21-21
I loved The Martian. Honestly one of the best sci-fi books ever made. So I was super excited when Andy wrote Artemis but I wasn't a massive fan of that one. I mean it was good but it felt like he was writing with extra detail so if it became a movie it would have lots to cover. However this book doesn't have that overwhelming explaintion of small detail problem. I mean it does a tiny bit but nowhere near as bad as Artemis. This was one of those books that made me look for extra time to listen. I would leave for work early just to sit in the parking lot a bit longer to listen and when it came time to go into work I wouldn't want to stop. This is a book I'm going to highly recommend for years to come.
As for the narrator... Ray Porter is easily one of my favorites. He, Luke Daniels, and Will Weaton are people I love listening to. Ray did the bobiverse books which made the first few chapters of this one a bit confusing because it's a similar topic but I got used to it. Ray always does an amazing job and I'm glad he is the narrator here.

Wow. I got sucked in to this series and love it
Revisado: 09-14-20
A co-worker recommended this series and talked about it for a while. When my other co-worker chimes on saying it was good I decided to spend a credit on the first book. There have been very few audiobooks I go out of my way to listen to or listen to while not just driving or something else that's going to take a few minutes. But the first 2 books so far have been ones where if I know I'm going to have more than a couple of minutes I listen. Absolutely great performance as well. The narrator is no Like Daniels but still very very good. I highly recommend this one and the first book at least and I assume the 3rd book will also be in that same boat.

A convoy of cars carrying several family members of the President’s cabinet to Camp David for “Family Day” is ambushed, killing and wounding wives, husbands, and children. Immediately in the aftermath, Vick Harwood watches a Facebook live feed of his former ranger buddy Sammie Samuelson’s apparent suicide and confession in his Thurmont, Maryland apartment, just one mile from Camp David. very cheesy. not bad but cheesy.
Revisado: 07-21-19
The language used on this book reminds me of someone who hasn't been in the military trying to talk like they have. but I know Nick was an actual sniper so that makes it weird. Overall I enjoyed the book but it was super cheesy at points.
