Historia
Orlando Whitfield and Inigo Philbrick met in 2006 at London’s Goldsmiths University where they became best friends. By 2007 they had started I&O Fine Art. Orlando would eventually set up his own gallery and watch as Inigo quickly immersed himself in a world of private jets and multimillion-dollar deals for major clients. Inigo seemed brilliant, but underneath the extravagant façade, his complicated financial schemes were unraveling. With debt, lawsuits, and court summonses piling up, Inigo went into a tailspin of lies and subterfuge.

Brilliant performance and marvelous writing. An achingly honest account of an art world crime and the friendship the author struggled to keep with the perpetrator. Engrossing and well worth the listen.

Historia
Few figures in American politics have seen more and said less than Mitt Romney. An outspoken dissident in Donald Trump’s GOP, he has made headlines in recent years for standing alone against the forces he believes are poisoning the party he once led. Romney was the first senator in history to vote to remove from office a president of his own party. When that president’s supporters went on to storm the US Capitol, Romney delivered a thundering speech from the Senate floor accusing his fellow Republicans of stoking insurrection.

Normal Republican in horrid times
Revisado: 12-05-23
The performance of the reader was WAY too dramatic. Romney doesn’t speak that dramatically so why would the reader dramatize Romney’s words and thoughts so breathlessly?
That said, agree or not, Romney’s candid insights into the brutal toxicity of Trump and his sycophants in the Republican Party is a breath of fresh air that every damn Republican voter should hear and take seriously. Unfortunately, Romney is a lone voice as these dupes keep getting duped by Trump and this astonishingly bald faced lying Congressman and Senators who suck up to this dangerous tool. Thank you Senator Romney for letting ‘er rip.
The final thought is: I wanted more. The book was too short. There must be more to tell. Maybe Part 2 some day.

Historia
The Titanic collided with an iceberg on the night of April 14, and 1,500 people died in the freezing waters as the ship met her watery grave. Spectacular in many ways, it's a story that has spurred legends and still sends shivers down the spine a century later. This minute-by-minute account of the sinking is based on over 20 years of research and offers amazing detail of that fateful night.

Historia
Most Americans dismiss George III as a buffoon - a heartless and terrible monarch with few, if any, redeeming qualities. The best-known modern interpretation of him is Jonathan Groff's preening, spitting, and pompous take in Hamilton, Lin-Manuel Miranda's Broadway masterpiece. But this deeply unflattering characterization is rooted in the prejudiced and brilliantly persuasive opinions of 18th-century revolutionaries. After combing through hundreds of thousands of pages of never-before-published correspondence, award-winning historian Andrew Roberts has uncovered the truth.

Historia
The pro football season of 1963 was dominated by the unexpected. In April, months prior to the beginning of play, it was revealed that two All-Star players, Paul Hornung and Alex Karras, were gambling on the sport and would be suspended from play for at least a year. Even worse, in May, one of the league’s bigger-than-life personalities, Big Daddy Lipscomb, was found dead, with police saying he perished from a heroin overdose, something those who knew him best still dispute.

Great subject, writing/narration lacking
Revisado: 07-06-21
First, as a narrator, would you not learn the pronunciation of every person in the book? The horrible mispronunciation of famous, legendary athletes was at first astonishing, then comical.
The writer selected a remarkable subject. Great effort but I found the writing often cliche and silly.

Instant Classic
Revisado: 05-15-21
A must read for any baseball fan old and new. And frankly, a must read for anyone who bristles at African-American sports figures who kneel for the National Anthem. Today’s players probably don’t face near the injustice of a Larry Doby, but this book sheds crucial light on an historic racism in America that many whites still don’t understand. Blacks today get stopped for having a blinker out and wind up with their hands on the hoods if their cars while the car is searched. That’s why athletes today kneel. This book reminds us of how bad it was for black athletes then and why fans today need to know why there’s still an understandable chip on many black shoulders.

Historia
Ulysses S. Grant's life has typically been misunderstood. All too often he is caricatured as a chronic loser and an inept businessman or as the triumphant but brutal Union general of the Civil War. But these stereotypes don't come close to capturing him, as Chernow reveals in his masterful biography, the first to provide a complete understanding of the general and president whose fortunes rose and fell with dizzying speed and frequency.

A rich and thorough account of one of the greatest Americans who unfortunately, prior to this book, is overshadowed by Lincoln, the Roosevelts and of course the Founding Fathers. Chernow’s work is must history for today’s social media soundbite world.
