Historia
One hundred fifty years of Roses' Tolivers, Warwicks, and DuMonts! We begin in the antebellum South on Plantation Alley in South Carolina, where Silas Toliver, deprived of his inheritance, joins up with his best friend Jeremy Warwick to plan a wagon train expedition to the "black waxy" promise of a new territory called Texas. Slavery, westward expansion, abolition, the Civil War, love, marriage, friendship, tragedy and triumph-all the ingredients (and much more) that made so many love Roses so much-are here in abundance.

Historia
Simon Basset, the irresistible Duke of Hastings, has hatched a plan to keep himself free from the town's marriage-minded society mothers. He pretends to be engaged to the lovely Daphne Bridgerton. After all, it isn't as if the brooding rogue has any real plans to marry - though there is something about the alluring Miss Bridgerton that sets Simon's heart beating a bit faster. And as for Daphne, surely the clever debutante will attract some very worthy suitors now that it seems a duke has declared her desirable.

Steamy but not much substance
Revisado: 08-07-24
This is one of the few times I can say the book is nowhere near as good as the show (or movie). The narration os good, but can't make up for what the book lacks.
The story lacks so much detail. In the end, it seems the storyline only exists to provide opportunities for the smut, and that means there is no depth or real character development. I don't think Simon's struggle or Daphne's resilience, nor the actual development of their deep love, are well established or developed. It's just sex. I've read dime store paperbacks with more plot.

Historia
This book essentially launched the memoir craze that has been going strong ever since. The story is pretty grim: teen-aged Wolff moves with his divorced mother from Florida to Utah to Washington State to escape her violent boyfriend. When she remarries, Wolff finds himself in a bitter battle of wills with his abusive stepfather, a contest in which the two prove to be more evenly matched than might have been supposed.

Historia
Since her parents’ mysterious deaths many years ago, scientist Cora Sparks has spent her days in the safety of her university lab or at her grandmother Etta’s dress shop. Tucked away on a winding Cambridge street, Etta’s charming tiny store appears quite ordinary to passersby, but the colorfully vibrant racks of beaded silks, delicate laces, and jewel-toned velvets hold bewitching secrets: With just a few stitches from Etta’s needle, these gorgeous gowns have the power to free a woman’s deepest desires.

Good Story! Great Narrator!! with a little magic
Revisado: 08-14-16
A good story!! I liked the story. I don't think it lagged anywhere. My only complaint would be that the ending was pretty transparent--I had it figured out pretty early, but I still enjoyed getting there.
The narration was awesome!!

Historia
Five years in the writing, Coming Home is the tale Rosamunde Pilcher believes to be the capstone of a lifetime of writing. Her most ambitious and compelling work yet, Coming Home is a vast canvas, and a vividly drawn portrait of an era close to us in time, yet now disappeared. Like The Shell Seekers, Coming Home is an intensely personal story. Like September, it teems with marvelous, memorable characters. Coming Home is a story to be savored, an old-fashioned tale hardly anyone knows how to tell anymore. In telling the story of Judith Dunbar and her loved ones, Rosamunde Pilcher describes each family member with warmth, wisdom and clear-eyed insight. Coming Home is a totally involving story of a young woman's coming of age, coming to terms with both love and sadness, and, in every sense of the word, Coming Home.

Abridged and doesn't tell you
Revisado: 07-28-16
I absolutely adore this book but this is an abridged version and it is not listed as such! I was very disappointed. Redgrave is a fantastic reader and the book is gorgeous, but an abridgement doesn't nearly so it justice!!!!
