Historia
Women can be heroes. When twenty-year-old nursing student Frances “Frankie” McGrath hears these words, it is a revelation. Raised in the sun-drenched, idyllic world of Southern California and sheltered by her conservative parents, she has always prided herself on doing the right thing. But in 1965, the world is changing, and she suddenly dares to imagine a different future for herself. When her brother ships out to serve in Vietnam, she joins the Army Nurse Corps and follows his path.

Everything!!!
Revisado: 03-28-25
intensity of the story, the emotional up-and-down that Kristen is taking you throughout the book, the real people like characters of these stories, are guaranteed to let the reader of this book be a little bit wiser, a little bit more knowledgeable, and a little bit more empathetic towards the sacrifice that the women of the Vietnam war made in the service of their country and for a long time, an ungrateful nation.

Historia
Rain slicked streets, riots, murder, chaos. It’s July 1992 and the Troubles in Northern Ireland are still grinding on after twenty-five apocalyptic years. Detective Inspector Sean Duffy got his family safely over the water to Scotland, to “Shortbread Land”. Duffy’s a part-timer now, only returning to Belfast six days a month to get his pension. It’s an easy gig, if he can keep his head down.

Phenomenal
Revisado: 03-07-25
I’ve read all of Adrian Mckinty books, and love Sean Duffy’s character. He’s grown from being an almost out of control police officer to a 40 something almost in control human being. The writing on this book is almost like music, with ups and downs and a pulsating narrative that keeps the rhythm. I should go back and reread the earlier books to decide whether this is the best Mckinty one, my gut says “YES”.

Talent!!! Exquisite, multilateral, uncanny at times
Revisado: 01-27-25
Julia brought my old man face to tears a few times before as a narrator. I don’t know her acting history except for what wikimedia posted but wanted to know so much more about what else is hidden in that pretty little head of hers. Thank You for Listening is a great sample of that brilliant, not unexpectedly, of that mystery. Thank you for allowing me that peek, Julia!

Historia
Relentless phone calls interrupt the peace of a warm August morning in Three Pines. Though the tiny Québec village is impossible to find on any map, someone has managed to track down Armand Gamache, head of homicide at the Sûreté, as he sits with his wife in their back garden. Reine-Marie watches with increasing unease as her husband refuses to pick up, though he clearly knows who is on the other end. When he finally answers, his rage shatters the calm of their quiet Sunday morning.

Can’t finish it
Revisado: 01-14-25
I’ve been a loyal reader of Louise Penny’s books for YEARS! And I can’t finish this one! Like previous years I pre-ordered this one and looked forward for months to get the download in my audible app. After two hours, I couldn’t keep up with the convoluted story, couldn’t tell the characters apart and just didn’t like the book. Feeling that my loyalty to this author is not warranted, I won’t pre-order the next book in this series. I will try to finish the book though!

Historia
Cadence didn't sit down one night and decide that downing two bottles of wine was a brilliant idea. Her drinking snuck up on her - as a way to sleep, to help her relax after a long day, to relieve some of the stress of the painful divorce that's left her struggling to make ends meet with her five-year-old son Charlie. It wasn't always like this. Just a few years ago, Cadence seemed to have it all - a successful husband, an adorable son, and a promising career as a freelance journalist.

So far so good!
Revisado: 09-19-22
Im just at the beginning, and the story is nicely moving along. Based on prior comments, i bought the kindle version and then the reduced priced audible version. I listen when there are no text exchanges, and read when the online/texts make up the majority of the chapter. The audible and kindle versions keep each other updated so it’s easy to go back and forth. Listening to texts is a bit confusing, i prefer to have the two versions.

Historia
When Browder’s young Russian lawyer, Sergei Magnitsky, was beaten to death in a Moscow jail in 2009, Browder cast aside his business career and made it his life’s mission to pursue justice for Sergei. One of the first steps of that mission was to uncover who had killed Sergei and profited from the $230 million corruption scheme that he had exposed. As Browder and his team tracked the money that flowed out of Russia—through the Baltics and Cyprus and on to Western Europe and the Americas—they discovered that Vladimir Putin himself was one of the beneficiaries of the crime.

A Modern Don Quichot Fighting Lethal Windmills
Revisado: 05-06-22
A few years ago I read his first book, Red Notice. We knew, or suspected what the murderous regime of Putin does, first and foremost to the people of Russia. Bill Browder happened to have an insight from a first row perspective and revealed one case of his own experience with Putin. The story doesn’t end there; then came Trump, and Putin managed through him to control to an extent the anti-Russia narrative coming out of the WH, through this stooge of his, as well as other sleazy US politicians, like Dana Rohrbacher, and corrupt US lawyers such as John Moscow and the company he represented. Freezing Order is a riveting account of how the Bill Browder crusade to stop the Oligarchs’ pilfering of Russia through the Magnitsky Act came close to hitting a hard wall thanks not just to efforts by the Kremlin to stop it but more so to the collaboration of the US and Western proxies. One would surmise that, should Red Notice’s message have been better heeded at the time of its publication, the world would have been in a better place instead of under threat from a nuclear Russia with a Hitler equivalent at its helm.

Historia
At the end of the Second World War, Cyril Conroy combines luck and a single canny investment to begin an enormous real estate empire, propelling his family from poverty to enormous wealth. His first order of business is to buy the Dutch House, a lavish estate in the suburbs outside of Philadelphia. Meant as a surprise for his wife, the house sets in motion the undoing of everyone he loves. The story is told by Cyril’s son Danny, as he and his older sister, the brilliantly acerbic and self-assured Maeve, are exiled from the house where they grew up by their stepmother.

I never write reviews- this is amazing
Revisado: 10-16-19
I love listening to books - some more than others. I heard about ‘The Dutch House’ in an audible book review, and the editors spoke with such vehemence about it, I thought let’s give it try. The book is beautifully written, the characters are 3-dimensional and the story is compelling - after all that you would think that it’s a slam dunk, let’s get the book! But no, there is more! The narrator is Tom Hanks, and I cannot imagine a better performer for this beautiful book - don’t think about it! Just get it.

Historia
An activist attorney is killed in a cute little L.A. trolley called Angels Flight, far from Harry Bosch's Hollywood turf. But the case is so explosive - and the dead man's enemies inside the LAPD are so numerous - that it falls to Harry to solve it. Now the streets are super heating. Harry's year-old Vegas marriage is unraveling. And the hunt for a killer is leading Harry to another high-profile L.A. murder case, one where every cop had a motive. The question is, did any have the guts?
