Good value. Story was imaginative and fun
Revisado: 04-28-25
World building and characters were great. Narrator needs to pay more attention to vocabulary. He obviously did not understand and mispronounced quite a few words. Still recommend this omnibus highly for a credit.

Good listen. Too short
Revisado: 12-06-24
Finally an overpower MC that at least has good reason to be that way. Love the characters. Good sub plots spinning off. Lots of great stories could exist in this setting. Enjoyed the narrators. Book ended just as it was getting good. Probably not worth a credit if they stay this short. Got this one during the big sale so it was worth the few dollars.

But he is not Emperor yet. The world is divided between those who support Imperial tradition and those who believe no one can take the throne. Mostly a prequel
Revisado: 11-13-20
Book is more prequel flashbacks than new story. This story would have been much better if the stories were in chronological order. Between the massive flashbacks and the marketing move of having half the story in another book from another character's point of view this book ended up being a waste of time. I like the character and world. l'll not continue the series though.

Historia
The ancient magic of wizards was anything but dark. It was the enlightenment that lifted humanity from the squalor of superstition, and the worship of fell spirits and capricious gods, but those days are gone. The shining glory of the sorcerers burned away the subtlety of wisdom, replacing it with easy power, held only in the hands of the elite - a new age built upon the elemental supremacy of aristocrats and the ignorance of the masses.

Jarred by a couple of incongruous plot devices
Revisado: 08-02-20
I really enjoyed this story and plan to get the next book. there were a couple situations that were so nonsensical they threw me out of the story. Will in the dungeon face what appeared to be certain death and making no attempt to escape even though he had demonstrated ability to do so earlier was one of them. Hopefully Manning will find some clever solutions to move his story forward in the next book that will fit with a clever and capable character.

It is a time of darkness, dread, and ultimate testing for the realm of Osten Ard, for the wild magic and terrifying minions of the undead Sithi ruler, Ineluki the Storm King, are spreading their seemingly undefeatable evil across the kingdom. With the very land blighted by the power of Ineluki's wrath, the tattered remnants of a once-proud human army flee in search of a last sanctuary and rallying point—the Stone of Farewell, a place shrouded in mystery and ancient sorrow.

Very slow
Revisado: 06-19-19
The world was interesting some of the characters were good enough for two books. I doubt I will ever make it through the third. The story just moved too slow for me. I found Simon unlikable an whiny. The "wise"/Order of the Scroll were slow witted and ineffective for the most part. Really by the end of the second book I was chearing for the Storm King to hurry up and wipe the miserable inhabitants out.

Story is getting better
Revisado: 12-23-18
The story is a lot better than the first book. I am going in for the tired book now. The fight scenes and metaphors could still use some work. This series is definitely becoming worthy of the title epic though.

lacking story
Revisado: 12-17-18
This is an interesting world and characters that don't have much of a story to tell so far. The story is far too dependant on amazing circumstance and the handful of combat scenes are dull. All of the big reveals we're teligraphed well in advance. The background is good enough that I will try out book 2 to see if things get more interesting though.

Fun lit RPG
Revisado: 09-24-18
The setting was interesting and the characters we're memorable. I like that Joe was not always the best and had to work for his advancement. I would like to see more focus on the other characters, fewer full readings of the character sheet and some story line about what is happening in the real world. Can't wait for the next book.

Historia
Get the first three books in the Kid Sensation series. Like millions of other kids, Jim grew up wanting to be a superhero. Unlike most of his contemporaries, however, Jim actually had the goods: a plethora of super powers that would have been the envy of any meta on the planet. But when his tryout with the Alpha League - the world's premiere group of supers - goes disastrously wrong, Jim basically becomes an outcast.

Interesting world and some of the characters are well done. All but a few chapters of this book we're slow moving and predictable filler.
