Historia
It was 23 months after his accident, and Peter was still dealing with constant excruciating pain. He'd seen dozens of doctors and tried a myriad of medications, but nothing seemed to work. Faced with the impossible choice of suffering through the rest of his life, he had an unlikely epiphany, "If I could somehow hike 2,000 miles on the Appalachian Trail, then my leg will have to be better." He set a starting date three weeks out, cobbled together a novice's pack, and set off on a journey destined to change his life forever—though not exactly how he had envisioned it.

inspiring
Revisado: 04-17-25
This was an inspirational account of one man's quest to heal himself body and soul while hiking the Appalachian Trail. It came at a time when I was doubting my own ability to tackle the trail, a life long dream. Now that I have retired and have the time, my knees have developed arthritis and I find it difficult to hike more than 4 miles at a time. This book let me know that 4 miles a day is okay. It's more about chasing the dream than it is about how fast you get there. (I do expect I'll be able to hike more miles in time, if not it'll take me longer to get there). We are planning our journey for next year.
The reading of this audio book took some time to get used to. I admire that the author read it himself and I feel like this gave it authenticity. Don't let this make you stop listening. I have read and listened to a lot of AT stories and this is one of the most inspiring.

The information in this book was very good and it gave me some things to think about as we reach retirement age. However, it sounded like it was being read by a computer. The reading was halting and the reader annunciation each and every syllable. I increased the speed to make it less distracting

The real stories behind the scenery of America’s national parks. For 12 years, Andrea Lankford lived in the biggest, most impressive national parks in the world, working a job she loved. She chaperoned baby sea turtles on their journey to sea. She pursued bad guys on her galloping patrol horse. She jumped into rescue helicopters bound for the heart of the Grand Canyon. She won arguments with bears. She slept with a few too many rattlesnakes. Hell yeah, it was the best job in the world! Fortunately, Andrea survived it.

Nix that career change idea
Revisado: 09-23-22
If this was supposed to chase anyone with the idea of becoming a NPS ranger screaming and running for the door it is a success. While it is interesting and it provides insights into the life of a ranger it would certainly discourage anyone from becoming one.

Government officials, journalists, and many American still tend to confuse income with wealth.

Historia
Ty Seidule grew up revering Robert E. Lee. From his southern childhood to his service in the US Army, every part of his life reinforced the Lost Cause myth: that Lee was the greatest man who ever lived, and that the Confederates were underdogs who lost the Civil War with honor. Now, as a retired brigadier general and Professor Emeritus of History at West Point, his view has radically changed. From a soldier, a scholar, and a southerner, Ty Seidule believes that American history demands a reckoning.

Don't Buy This Book
Revisado: 07-22-21
This was billed as history but in reality it is nothing more than a rant against the deep south. Yes, I am well aware of the souths racist history and no I'm not proud of that fact but this book portrays ALL southerners as racist and I can't listen to any more of it. As a southern woman I am proud because that means I am strong and resilient. It DOES NOT mean I am a white supremacist!

Historia
“Long live the King” hailed Entertainment Weekly upon publication of Stephen King’s On Writing. Part memoir, part master class by one of the bestselling authors of all time, this superb volume is a revealing and practical view of the writer’s craft, comprising the basic tools of the trade every writer must have. King’s advice is grounded in his vivid memories from childhood through his emergence as a writer, from his struggling early career to his widely reported, near-fatal accident in 1999—and how the inextricable link between writing and living spurred his recovery.

Revisado: 01-21-20
Steven King reads his memoir on the craft of writing with style and feeling. He is encouraging to would be writers, offering tips and advice on everything from where to get your ideas to getting published. He actually gives us permission to be writers if that is what we want to be. Sometimes that's all we need to start something new. I recommend this to anyone interested in writing fiction whether Steven King fans or not.

In January 2019, culture writer Anne Helen Petersen set the internet on fire with her viral BuzzFeed essay diagnosing “millennial burnout” - a chronic state of stress and exhaustion that’s become a “base temperature” for young people today. Now, she continues this generation-defining conversation in a brand-new format, interviewing millennials around the country about their own deeply personal experiences with burnout, and the culture that creates it.
