Historia
With the newly hatched Nishari at his side, it is finally time for Hump to face his fate in Drakalyn, home of the wolf dragons, but to get there he must venture through the Fallen Lands—a realm lost to dungeons and monsters. Only, time is not on his side. The Book of Infinite Pages has awoken, and if Hump fails to master his manifested soul, others will seek to claim it. Even in these distant lands, a new danger approaches, and it seeks the blood of a goddess. The Dragon Keepers are all that stand between Celaine's people and death. The White Flame must blaze again.

Steep downgrade from last book. Didn’t finish.
Revisado: 10-13-24
This is the first book where Hump isn’t really the main character. Instead, he just kind of simps around as the “good guy” in a VERY clunky love triangle against the bad, toxically masculine guy. While it was always borderline, the writing slips into the “young adult” category along with the subject material. First one I wouldn’t recommend.

Surprisingly depressing but seems like good set up
Revisado: 08-14-24
There is a stark tonal shift from the first one where the plot, in a somewhat contrived manner, drags the main character into 6 hours of reading time into a brooding, depressed, (repetitive) mess. While the vocal performance is amazing and the writing isn’t bad (albeit…repetitive), it’s very unpleasant for a long time. More than necessary in a fantasy book. There are great themes present, however, and it looks like it sets up future installments well.

Historia
Michael has taken the Game by the throat. No longer content to lurk in the shadows, he has started down a path that will inevitably bring him into conflict with the Powers. But the Powers are no easy foes. Nor are they Michael’s only adversaries. Other enemies stir. Some confront him openly, while others watch patiently from the sidelines. A lone wolf no more, and with many of his own pieces in play, Michael may find himself more exposed than he believes. The stakes are high. And the schemes of the players convoluted.

Best in Genre
Revisado: 12-23-23
This series truly is the best in the genre and this book is truly equal to the 4 before it. It’s common in this genre for the series to kind of jump the shark by book 5 with the author having to resort to the protagonist floating around in space with stats in the thousands. This series is the opposite - the plots of each book are grounded and there’s so much going on, there’s room for Michael to do so much more. Character advancement is still meaningful and the world is very well-developed. Can’t wait until Book 6.

Historia
Astral threads cut across the world, drawing Sam to them like a fire from the past. He discovers that his new race is intrinsically tied to the Void and the stars. Meanwhile, hints of the First War are returning to Aster Fall as the dimension trembles. Flaws are appearing more rapidly than ever, putting pressure on cities across the kingdom. In the shadows, dangerous artifacts related to Outsiders reveal a troubling connection. The relic also holds ancient secrets, some of them powerful enough to change the balance of power in the land.

Starting to jump the shark a little.
Revisado: 12-11-23
I’ve been pulling for the author for a couple books now but the prose is…not good. For example, a skill will explicitly say “this can be used for offense and defense” then the next line will be the character saying “I can use this for offense and defense.” Also, whereas the reader for the first book could kind of disguise that, it’s not his fault but somehow this guy’s voice emphasizes those writing flaws and some of the lack of personality in most of the characters.

The line between friend and foe blurs, and Michael’s path grows murkier. Nexus is a place of both opportunity and danger. Sitting at the heart of the world, the city is home to thousands—ordinary people, players, but Powers too. Can Michael remain free of their clutches, or will he become entangled in the Powers’ machinations? Will Nexus be the death of Michael?

Revisado: 12-18-22
This series is fantastic; this book in particular. There are a couple scenes that start out seeming way out of place…ahem, tundra, but then the author finishes the story arc and it turns out great. Can’t recommend enough.

Great world, great characters and LitRPG elements but 1/3 of it is work.
Revisado: 12-04-22
Overall, the story is good and I will definitely get the third book. However, there is a fight scene which seems to take 1/3 of the book that feels like work to get through. The immersion is great but then everyone has to ask everyone if they are okay at least twice in the middle of actual fighting and actually have an inner-fight huddle where they describe a simple plan using as many words as possible. Then, it kind of comes across like a turn-based RPG where only one character can move at a time while the rest stand there and a lot of characters use their turn to ask the others if they’re okay. The main character also “goes cold” and “gives it everything he has left” like 14 times in this fight and the reader’s very effective, dramatic voice ends up dragging it out even more. It is a good story and I’m over-hyping the negatives, and overall it’s worth it, but get ready to put in about 5 hours of work.

Historia
For those who reside in the outer regions of Aleria, the day of bestowal is what determines their destiny. It is the holy day of the Goddess. The day that allows those of age to step forward and receive their blessing, to embark on the path that she has chosen for them. To receive their Classification, which dictates their strength and ability. For those people, the holy day of bestowal represents fate itself. For Dante, it represents salvation.

Opposites attack! When the Magelord Minalan the Spellmonger’s two apprentices, Tyndal and Rondal, were knighted after the battle of Timberwatch, they were dubbed Knights Magi: A new class of nobility for distinguished High Magi. Designed to combine the pursuit of arcane knowledge with the noble aspirations of chivalry, it elevated them above common warmage...in theory. The problem was they had no idea how to be a Knight Mage...because no one had ever been one before.

Skip this one
Revisado: 04-21-18
I loved the first three. The plot in this one made no sense at all. Someone does something terrible and is ultimately rewarded for it. They try to explain how it wasn’t a reward but it obviously was. It’s insulting to be told that up is really down. I’m going to try the next one in the series because the first three were so good. But I wish someone had told me to skip this one. All you need to know from this one is that the knights magi become friends.
