Historia
Time is running out for Ben Greenwood - not as an apprentice for the Royal Institute of Magic, but as the Head Guardian, secretly responsible for uniting Queen Elizabeth's Armour. The dark elves are coming and the only chance of stopping them is to find the last Guardian and the final two pieces of the armour. They will be difficult to find and heavily protected, as they are the most important of all. To make matters worse, Ben's only clue to their whereabouts comes from a particularly unreliable and dangerous source.

Awesome Story
Revisado: 04-16-23
The series as a whole has been a wonderful experience. The characters are well developed, the story well told, and even the hero is more than just a blank slate like certain other Magic School MC's.
Peter Kenny is amazing at the narration, as always (was happy to hear his voice as he also narrates The Witch, another favorite series).
The only downside, sadly, is the unfortunate loss of Victor Kloss. Taken from us far too soon, and the fact that we won't get more from him just makes it worse.
I highly recommend this for any fans of YA Magic School stories who are looking to get away from the ick of our old favorite.

Historia
It all began when the wizards of the White League were under attack by their opponents of the Black League and one of their most powerful members cast a spell to bring forth a mighty wizard to aid their cause. What the spell delivered was master hacker Walter "Wiz" Zumwalt. But spells are a lot like computer programs, and, in spite of the Wiz's unprepossessing appearance, he was going to defeat the all-powerful Black League, win the love of a beautiful red-haired witch, and prove that when it comes to spells and sorcery, nobody but nobody can beat a Silicon Valley computer geek!

Why is everyone horrible?
Revisado: 02-19-23
I tried to like this book, I really did. I've been looking for a new adult fantasy novel series, but this was just.... bad. The writing itself was so-so, nothing to really concentrate on, but the characters.... oi... the characters were almost all completely horrible in one fashion or another. Either complete jerks who care only for themselves, ineffectual idiots, or (in the case of one of the few decent characters) borderline racist stereotypes in description and name... seriously, a Black man in stereotypical "African tribal garb" named Bal-SIMBA?
I thought the "Magic as Coding Language" idea was novel, though I preferred Gordon Dickinson's version more. And the lack of simpler explanations makes for a confusing listen if you're not a programmer.
All in all, not a high recommendation. Typical Isekai power fantasy with a novel twist.

A Fun, If Inaccurate, Adventure
Revisado: 01-20-23
As a story, taken as a fairy tale, this book is fun and exciting. But, if you know much at all about Old Norse Mythology, this may grate on you a bit here and there, and even insult anyone who follows the Norse Pagan Faith at one point.
If you're a kid who doesn't know much or anything about it, this is just a fun adventure with mythological overtones. I highly recommend for younger audiences (though parental discretion is advised).

Another awesome performance
Revisado: 05-27-21
I truly do love this series. Have since I was a kid. Admittedly some of the writing feels dated (and not just the technology mentioned) but you can feel the well meaning behind it. The dramatic performance adds so much to it. Can't wait to finish the series.

Historia
Jonathan Thomas Meriweather is a typical college student, interested in girls, music, and an occasional taste of reefer. But when a journey through an interdimensional portal lands him in a world of talking animals and ominous sorcery, he finds he is on a very different trip indeed. Here, when he plays a strange instrument called a duar, peculiar things happen: powerful magic that may be the only way to stop a dark force that threatens his new world — and his old one.

A Classic Brought To Life
Revisado: 05-12-21
Spellsinger is one of my favorite book series from my childhood, and to hear it brought to life like this was fantastic. The fact that they treated it like an audio drama makes me so happy, and the casting was spot on (with Pog's voice being better than I imagined in my childhood).
If I have any complaint, it's one I understand, as they didn't use any of the licensed songs they talked about in the books (Purple Haze, Red Corvette, etc). But since they're licensed, it's understandable that they couldn't.
I highly recommend this for anyone who like Audio Dramas and/or fantasy novels.

Mostly pleased
Revisado: 12-15-20
I love this book series, and was happy to get the audio book for it. I was 95% pleased with the performance, but his voice for Alice just stuck in my craw.
Other than that, looking forward to the rest of the series.

When an unknown someone shoots him and leaves him to die, Harry Dresden hopes he might be heading to a better place. Unfortunately being dead doesn't make Harry's life any easier. Trapped between life and death, he learns that his friends are in serious trouble. Only by finding his murderer can he save his friends and move on - a feat that would be a lot easier if he had a body and access to his powers. Worse still are the malevolent shadows that roam Chicago, controlled by a dark entity that wants Harry to suffer even in death.

Given the original's mediocrity, Marsters' return to the role makes it so much better.
