BEWARE: Inaccurate Book Descrption
Revisado: 03-11-15
If the Audible description actually reflected the contents of this book, it might have been quite good. Instead, "The Perfect Witness" is a paranormal suspense novel with plenty of romantic tension.
The narrator does an adequate, if unmemorable, job with the voice of Allie, the on-the-run, psychic teen daughter of a ruthless mob boss. But when it comes to her mysterious rescuer and love-interest, Mandak, Elisabeth Rodgers delivers a robotic, stilted performance at best.
The sexual tension between Mandak and Allie begins when she is a teenager (ick!) and culminates in her 20s with romantic scenes just bristling with cliched prose and tired dialogue.
I'm afraid this one's better left to the sophomoric set.

Sappy Romance

If you were hoping for a literary suspense novel, this is not it. It's more like a sappy, romantic character study.

Captivating Intrigue!
Revisado: 11-25-13
With twists and turns galore, this is not your average murder mystery. Set in colonial (I know! Just trust me.) South Carolina, it's filled with dark, volatile characters, and plenty of intrigue, all delivered in pitch-perfect narration. On my way to purchasing the sequel as soon as I post this review.

Historia
After working one of the worst mass killings in U.S. history, Scarpetta returns home to Cambridge, Massachusetts. Exhausted and ill, she's recovering at home when she receives an unsettling call. The body of a young woman has been discovered on the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's rugby field. The victim, a graduate student named Gail Shipman, is oddly draped in ivory linen and posed in a way that is too deliberate to be the killer's first strike.

Narration leaves much to be desired
Revisado: 11-16-13
The narrator ruined this book for me. It was truly difficult to concentrate on the story with a narrator reading like an amateur delivering the evening news. As for the storyline, I have always enjoyed the Scarpetta books, but Cornwell has turned the characters into a bunch of snooty, arrogant whiners. Hidden conspiracies run amuck.

Not one of Kellerman's best.
Revisado: 08-08-13
Would you try another book from Faye Kellerman and/or Mitchell Greenberg?
Absolutely. Have always enjoyed Faye Kellerman's book.
Would you ever listen to anything by Faye Kellerman again?
Of course.
What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?
Not great, but fine.
What character would you cut from The Beast?
It's not the characters that bother me, but the dialogue and storyline that didn't engross me like previous books in the series.
Any additional comments?
Storyline was a bit tired.
