Beautiful
Revisado: 12-03-23
There was so much said in this book that I have felt my whole life, but have never been able to put into a coherent string of words. It was beautifully written and narrated. The plot was beyond brilliant, and I will be forever changed by these wonderful characters. It was so easy to picture everything and every detail was integral to the story. The memories shared in the middle of the plot were related and nothing felt like filler. I loved every second and I am so sad it’s over.

Hard to listen to
Revisado: 06-15-23
I really wanted to like this book and maybe I might’ve had I got a physical copy, but the narrator genuinely ruined it. Her accent is so forced and sounds fake and the rest of the characters also have unbearable voices. The dialogue between characters feels so unnatural and not like how real people would respond. And the narration is cheesy in a bad way, I was constantly rolling my eyes and cringing. Just experienced a lot of secondhand embarrassment listening to this book, I really wish I could get my credit back.

Couldn’t stop listening
Revisado: 06-03-23
I remember when the Girls Like Girls video came out and I couldn’t stop sending it and showing it. It was shortly after I came out to my parents, a year after coming out to my friends, and a time I was enduring a similar relationship to Collie and Sonia. It was my safe space, and one of the few pieces of media I could relate to and feel safe with. Now, 7 years later, getting to hear the entire story of the girls has brought me back. This story has broken and healed me all over again.
Hayley is an incredible writer, something I knew from her song writing, but never experienced to this capacity. The way she tells the story creates the clearest movie in my head. She is so detailed, and while she is careful with her words, it also sounds and feels so effortless. This is THE love story, and it deserves to be heard and read by everyone. I am beyond sad that it’s over, and I hope we can hear more of Collie and Sonia’s story someday. The voice actors and sound affects and music only enhanced this beautiful story. Thank you for the representation. Thank you for turning my favorite 5 min music video into an 8 hour long novel. I cherished every minute. This is a story I’ll never forget, and probably one that I will read and listen to several times over.

Incredible
Revisado: 01-23-23
I think everyone has a book that changed the course of their life, I feel like I’ve had a few, but I know now that it is actually Born a Crime. Not only is the book written perfectly, but Trevor reading it so effortlessly - I could picture everything so vividly. Some I did not want to picture, but all was so necessary. I laughed and I bawled, I clenched my teeth and fists and I relaxed on my break at work to the sound of his stories. This book will stick with me for the rest of my life. It is a history book. It is a memoir. It is a drama. It is a comedy. It is a fantastic listen. I learned so much, all of which I can’t believe I was never taught. Thank you Trevor, hope I can hug you someday.
