When he was good he was very, very good but.....

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
When the professor stuck to a fact-based, historical, discussion he was good. When he started talking climate science towards the end, he jumped the track and embarrassed himself.
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
He should have skipped the last two chapters where he ventured beyond his expertise.
What about Professor Patrick N. Allitt’s performance did you like?
On the plus side, his discussions of frequently overlooked enabling technologies (e.g. precision machine tools) clarified why many flashy inventions like trains, planes and the computer couldn't really have happened much before they did.

Poor Bertie

Interesting title for this book as poor Bertie is finding out that HIS world is located in the "Twilight Zone." For the last five years now, Bertie wakes up every morning and he's still six years old, trapped in some Dantian ring of Hell. Luckily for them, everybody else at 44 Scotalnd Street seems to be moving on with their lives. Watch out Mr. Matheson; Alexander McCall Smith is challenging you as the new master of the horror genre.
