I tried to give this one a fair shot. I made it through 8 chapters of cringeworthy narration before I called it. Tor’s work is usually hit or miss for me anyway but this one missed me by a country mile. The way he voices Kip sounds like he has a stuffy nose. Couple that with the awkward attempt at a Brooklyn accent, and we have the perfect recipe for the stereotypical “himbo”. In hopes that the writing/characterization of Kip is not part of the issue, I am going to switch to reading. I’m so glad this was included with my membership and I didn’t waste a credit on it.

I enjoyed this more than I thought I would. It’s been on my list for a while and I finally went for it. Excellent narration though there were times (not plot driven) when Christian sounded like he’d smoked an entire stack of dynamite or that he was talking into the end of a pool noodle. I’m assuming that was just the difference between Teddy and James voicing him for that chapter. And no…I’m not talking about the times Christian’s gruff voice was written into the text though that was a bit of spicy sizzle not easily forgotten. Over all this was a fun, relatively low angst, tale of found family, love, redemption, and just desserts. I absolutely adored it.

I tried. I really did. I made it to Ch. 10 and couldn’t finish their first scene. I have loved other works I’ve read by Annabeth Albert but the writing in this one felt awkward. This story didn’t seem to have the same effortless flow as other works I’ve listened to/read by this author. The narration presented another barrier to finishing this book. There was too little distinction between voices for this type of material. With Dom/sub storylines, I typically prefer a clear distinction between both MMC’s as it helps paint the picture for me. I typically enjoy Cooper North’s narration but the combination of the narration and the writing actually made me cringe. Again, I really tried.

I really wanted to like this book. I think I probably could but the narration from Marc was beyond irritating. He made Nash sound like a 70-yr-old grandpa. His narration for mason didn’t fit well either. I think that was a matter of casting. Swapping Iggy and Marc would’ve been a better fit.

Angels in the City is the first work I’ve listened to by this author and this voice actor. It was a great introduction to them both. There were times when the Russian accent became a little muddled or sounded British but it was a minor issue and not reason for the reduction of a whole star. I enjoyed having a break from high adversity, angst, and drama filled storylines without sacrificing the steam. Overall this was more than worth the listen.

The narration was absolutely awful. I listened because I wanted to get through the series. It was painful. Painful enough that I couldn’t enjoy the story, which really stinks. I hope Tristan will improve but it will have to be a HUGE improvement for me to even attempt listening.

Buckle up, friends, because the twists, turns, and cliffhangers will have you checking your pulse. Grab the antacids because the spicy scenes are going to give you heartburn and put on some sunglasses because the performances are going to make you see stars. There was no “narrating” in this audiobook; the voice actors truly embodied these characters and brought them to life. Jolie has outdone herself and I don’t say that lightly. Fully fleshed out characters, a witty turn of phrase, and vivid imagery are standard in all of her books, but this one will get a second listen AND re-read very soon. Like…next week soon. Thank you, Jolie. You’ve done it again!

The narration is really making me struggle. When the narrator reads Austin, it sounds like he’s impersonating Shatner play Capt. Kirk. The start/stop cadence is really distracting and cringy.

I wanted to like this one. I’ve listened to all the Nothing Special series so I had high hopes. The story was fairly good; however, the narration did not do it for me. Ric’s voice was painful to hear, especially the forced growl during the flirty and spicy parts. I typically enjoy Sean Crisden’s work but the overly generic, fake antebellum, southern gentleman accent used for Blair…left me feeling…meh.

I loved this series in print and was excited to get the audiobook. Aidy’s wolves are simply the best. For the most part the narration was good a with couple of exceptions. Stephanie didn’t give Selena the Russian accent I imagined in the books as I read them. In the Dirty Wolf she at least attempted the accent. If the books were narrated in chronological order, I would expect her to improve the accent not forego it altogether. She also pronounced Kosta’s name using a long “o” sound making his name sound too much like “coaster”. It threw me off each time she said it. On a positive note, she performed the female characters well allowing their individual personalities to shine through. Curt’s attempt at Selena’s accent was admirable and I did enjoy his performance of Kosta’s voice better than his portrayal of Max in Dirty Wolf. All in all though Aidy’s work is always rewarding and I enjoyed the overall experience.
