The story is classic cosy mystery, a genre I usually love. The writing in this story drove me crazy. I don’t know how many times someone tucked a tendril of hair behind the heroine’s ear.

I counted 3 times (more than one person) with a couple hours left. Was there any editing? Anyway, childish characters and writing.

I don’t usually do reviews and don’t like being negative, but this story was really tough to get through

I admit I forwarded through chunks of this material. I hate stories where the heroine is hated and reviled by all sides and has no allies. One obstacle after another, and even the person she is trying to help hates them.

They were never believed and in the end there was no clear explanation and no exoneration of either of them.

Just a weird, rambling, frustrating story

As someone who listens to a lot of audiobooks - several every week for years - this felt fresh.

It doesn’t adhere to any genre formula and therefore is not predictable. It is not super tension filled - more like a women’s fiction story - which is character / day-in-the-life driven. More of a Fried Green Tomatoes rather than a Die Hard.

The characters are likable which is a plus for me anyway. The story held my interest and had a nice ending.

I enjoyed enough to purchase other work from this author.

This was such a fun, sweet read. We travel into the head and memories of a war veteran who found love during the hardest time of his life, while fighting in WW2. The story reflects the real emotion of two young lovers grasping for something more when they know their chance at lasting love is fleeting.

I also, loved the author's personal insights and attachment to the story.

Thoroughly great read.

During the Victorian era in England women held little power. And when one young girl is raped by a group of wealthy college men, she is devastated. A chance encounter years later enflames her anger and sets her on the path to revenge.

Detective Bloodstone is investigating the death of one prominent man with seemingly no enemies when another is murdered. The men don’t seem to have any ties other than wealth and the method of murder, arsenic.

Will the brilliant detective figure out what is happening before more men are killed or will our rape victim finish meting out her own form of justice?

Snifter of Death is an engaging read where I found myself in the uncomfortable position of rooting for the villain. Ms. Karlsen manages to weave questions into her novel about societies’ norms. This adds to the overall value. Further, the author creates believable nuanced characters and portrays Victorian England in all its charm and grime.

A really, really well done book. Also, I loved the speaker in the audio version. She did a great job.

Silk is the story of a powerful, entitled man who enjoys strangling women while in the throes of ecstasy. After he discards them, there is precious little proof to connect the women to him. When the Detective Bloodstone gets close to figuring out the culprit, our villain uses his considerable influence to block him.

I found Silk to be a riveting read. You know who the villain is, you just don’t know if Detective Bloodstone will actually be able to gather enough evidence and if his department will have the political will to pin the murders on him. It’s a political statement as relative today as it was back then. Further, there were compelling subplots, an anti-aging scheme for one, that also made this story great.

Aside from the great plot lines, I love Ms. Karlsen’s writing style. She doesn’t candy coat what life was like in the late 1800’s as is common in historical mystery and romance novels. I love the realism of the time and the realism of the characters. They are all three dimensional and interesting. This series is a real find for mystery lovers. I can’t wait for her next installments.
