Historia
Vera Wong is a lonely little old lady—ah, lady of a certain age—who lives above her forgotten tea shop in the middle of San Francisco’s Chinatown. Despite living alone, Vera is not needy, oh no. She likes nothing more than sipping on a good cup of Wulong and doing some healthy detective work on the Internet about what her Gen-Z son is up to. Then one morning, Vera trudges downstairs to find a curious thing—a dead man in the middle of her tea shop.

Main characters have no redeeming qualities
Revisado: 03-27-22
I was excited to read this book and the series based on having read a number of Gregory’s other books. However, while the writing is excellent I simply can’t find anything about the main character and her primary supporting character (the brother) to like or even not loathe for long enough that I wanted to finish the book. I got slightly more than halfway through and gave up. Very disappointed.

Historia
Every day we experience the uncertainty, risks, and emotional exposure that define what it means to be vulnerable or to dare greatly. Based on 12 years of pioneering research, Dr. Brené Brown dispels the cultural myth that vulnerability is weakness and argues that it is, in truth, our most accurate measure of courage. Brown explains how vulnerability is both the core of difficult emotions like fear, grief, and disappointment, and the birthplace of love, belonging, joy, empathy, innovation, and creativity.

Don't waste your time and credits. I thought this would be great as I've heard she is a wonderful speaker and has poignant insights. Maybe she's better in person, because what little bit of this I managed to listen to was like having someone read a Pinterest quote board to me.

Historia
"While the history books are filled with tales of obsessive visionary geniuses who remade the world in their images with sheer, almost irrational force, I've found that history is also made by individuals who fought their egos at every turn, who eschewed the spotlight, and who put their higher goals above their desire for recognition." Repetition is good in advertising, not a book.
Revisado: 08-09-17
What would have made Ego Is the Enemy better?
More content that wasn't simply restating what was in the first chapter.
Would you ever listen to anything by Ryan Holiday again?
Unlikely.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
He's pretty boring to listen to in this format. I heard him speak live and he was a bit better.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Ego Is the Enemy?
Everything after chapter one.

Historia
On a warm summer morning in North Carthage, Missouri, it is Nick and Amy Dunne’s fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick’s clever and beautiful wife disappears. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn’t doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams about the slope and shape of his wife’s head, but passages from Amy's diary reveal the alpha-girl perfectionist could have put anyone dangerously on edge.

Predictable "twist" and unlikeable characters
Revisado: 11-03-16
I am almost always surprised by the twist in mystery/thriller novels. This one I had figured out in the first few chapters. From that point I just had to wait through excess backstory to get to the anticlimactic twist. And from that chapter on, the characters became more revolting by the minute. And the ending is ridiculously awful. The only redeeming quality about this audiobook was the performance. Both readers were terrific. Too bad they didn't have a better story.
