Historia
Since he was a small boy, Mosab Hassan Yousef has had an inside view of the deadly terrorist group Hamas. The oldest son of Sheikh Hassan Yousef, a founding member of Hamas and its most popular leader, young Mosab assisted his father for years in his political activities while being groomed to assume his legacy, politics, status...and power. But everything changed when Mosab turned away from terror and violence and embraced instead the teachings of another famous Middle East leader.

Jaw-Dropping, Eye-Opening & Inspiring!
Revisado: 04-28-24
Wow…my words cannot adequately convey how much I LOVED this book! It reads much like a spy-thriller except this is nonfiction. Far more than an account of a young man imprisoned, then freed after agreeing to spy for “the enemy”while playing the role of a Hamas terrorist, this book shares deep insight into matters of justice, family, hard choices, and above all, love. I could go on and on. Son of Hamas goes on my all-time favorite books list, for sure!

Jill and Derick knew a normal life wasn’t possible for them. As a star on the popular TLC reality show 19 Kids and Counting, Jill grew up in front of viewers who were fascinated by her family’s way of life. She was the responsible, second daughter of Jim Bob and Michelle’s nineteen kids; always with a baby on her hip and happy to wear the modest ankle-length dresses with throat-high necklines.

Historia
Now reduced to a schoolyard chant, the Hope family murders shocked the Maine coast one bloody night in 1929. While most people assume seventeen-year-old Lenora was responsible, the police were never able to prove it. Other than her denial after the killings, she has never spoken publicly about that night, nor has she set foot outside Hope’s End, the cliffside mansion where the massacre occurred.

Historia
Pandemic, climate change, or war: Our era is ripe with the odor of doomsday. In movies, books, and more, our imaginations run wild with visions of dreadful, abandoned cities and returning to the land in a desperate attempt at survival. In The Next Apocalypse, archaeologist Chris Begley argues that we completely misunderstand how disaster works. Examining past collapses of civilizations, such as the Maya and Rome, he argues that these breakdowns are actually less about cataclysmic destruction than they are about long processes of change.

Captivating, Informative & Thought-Provoking
Revisado: 12-29-22
I loved this book and learned so much! The author covers it all—collapses throughout history, present-day culture, and what needs to happen so we do not experience our own apocalypse in the future. I love how the author intertwines his academic knowledge of archaeology and anthropology with his personal experiences, including living in the Amazon rainforest of Honduras and teaching wilderness survival skills here in the U.S. I highly recommend this book!

Historia
Shetty grew up in a family where you could become one of three things—a doctor, a lawyer, or a failure. His family was convinced he had chosen option three: Instead of attending his college graduation ceremony, he headed to India to become a monk, to meditate every day for four to eight hours, and devote his life to helping others. After three years, one of his teachers told him that he would have more impact on the world if he left the monk’s path to share his experience and wisdom with others.

Loved it so much I ordered the hard copy too for quicker references to all the beautiful (and practical) wisdom Jay pours out in this book! And for anyone scared to buy, he never suggests you need to BE a monk, just expounds on how to THINK like a monk and live a happier, healthier, more fulfilling life.

Born to survivalists in the mountains of Idaho, Tara Westover was seventeen the first time she set foot in a classroom. Her family was so isolated from mainstream society that there was no one to ensure the children received an education, and no one to intervene when one of Tara’s older brothers became violent. When another brother got himself into college, Tara decided to try a new kind of life. Her quest for knowledge transformed her, taking her over oceans and across continents, to Harvard and to Cambridge University.

Historia
The occasion was a big birthday. And it inspired two close friends to get together in Dharamsala for a talk about something very important to them. The friends were His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Archbishop Desmond Tutu. The subject was joy. Both winners of the Nobel Prize, both great spiritual masters and moral leaders of our time, they are also known for being among the most infectiously happy people on the planet.

Eavesdropping on a Beautiful Friendship
Revisado: 05-14-18
Wow...I will listen to this book again and again and have bought several hard copies to give away!
This book-long conversation between the Dalai Lama and Desmond Tutu grabbed my heart and challenged my mind in ways indescribable here! In today’s world of division, power plays and downright hatred of “the other,” this book holds the key to moving forward!
(The only criticism I have is that, listening to the two people reading the parts of the Dalai Lama and Tutu, I had a hard time distinguishing which one was speaking. Their accents and voices were not different enough.)

Trevor Noah seems to have a unique and personal 360-degree vantage point on issues such as race, gender equality, domestic violence, the things that tear us down and the things that raise us up. I highly recommend this book!
