An emotional and controversial topic.
Revisado: 06-28-16
What did you love best about Me Before You?
The love story was the foundation for the book and was very moving.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Absolutely. I had a hard time putting it down and missed a lot of sleep.
Any additional comments?
This book dealt with a very difficult and controversial topic. It made me think a great deal, While I did not like the ending, I understand why it turned out the way it did. I still cried.

For Dog Lovers
Revisado: 06-28-16
The story was pleasant and the characters were fairly interesting. The narrator was almost insufferable. He nearly ruined the book. Grace, the dog, was the best part.. I enjoyed her a lot, even though it was hard to believe how well behaved she was in spite of being seriously abused prior to being adopted.

An obscure, but important bit of history, told in a way that was enjoyable. I had heard. of
this event, but heating all the details And understanding the impact that the hurricane had on the lives of. the people made it much more meaningful.

I Miss Ralph Cosham!
Revisado: 11-13-15
It is so sad to lose Ralph. I was amazed and disappointed when I read that Robert Bathurst
did not even listen to previous books, but just jumped right in to do his own thing. As a long time reader of Penny's books, I felt very let down by his narration. There are several narrators who could do a much better reading than Mr. Bathurst. Cosham was able to provide an interpretation of Gamache that was consistent with how Penny presented him. I know that it is difficult to please people in a situation such as this. But it certainly seems that a better choice could be made for future books (of which I hope there are many!).

Deep thinking encouraged
Revisado: 11-13-15
This book has stayed with me for weeks. It is unlike most books I've ever read. I think the author did not expect all who read it to understand it in the same way. Sort of like Life -we do not understand experiences in the same way that others do and no one really helps us to interpret them. So, while this book had a great story line, it kept us interested and was the means to encourage the reader to develop her/his own understanding. I think that is why some readers felt let down by the ending. Ambiguity can be difficult to cope with, but it does help us to think more deeply than we otherwise could.

Historia
On a night flight from London to Boston, Ted Severson meets the stunning and mysterious Lily Kintner. Sharing one too many martinis, the strangers begin to play a game of truth, revealing very intimate details about themselves. Ted talks about his marriage that's going stale and his wife, Miranda, who he's sure is cheating on him. Ted and his wife were a mismatch from the start - he the rich businessman, she the artistic free spirit - a contrast that once inflamed their passion but has now become a cliché.

Chilling!
Revisado: 09-12-15
It was good there were so many readers for this book because of the many characters. They all did a great job. The plot was unlike any I have ever read. The main character was a very good portrayal of a sociopath. I have run into many of these in my professional career, but none so interesting. The plot was very believable which is why it was so chilling!

I felt like I was being bamboozled
Revisado: 12-19-14
I expected a lot more from Lincoln Child than what was in this book. Crisis after crisis became very boring after a while. There was a plot, but it seemed secondary to the author's attempt to "thrill" the reader, a gratuitous and shallow goal. The characters were there to provide the framework for the "thrills," but were not well drawn. I do not recommend this book.

Historia
By 1785, deep in the heart of Paris, the city's oldest cemetery is overflowing, tainting the very breath of those who live nearby. Into their midst comes Jean-Baptiste Baratte, a young, provincial engineer charged by the king with demolishing it. At first Baratte sees this as a chance to clear the burden of history, a fitting task for a modern man of reason. But before long, he begins to suspect that the destruction of the cemetery might be a prelude to his own.

Engrossing, entertaining, but weird
Revisado: 02-16-14
I am really glad I listened to this book. At first, I thought the author wrote it strictly from his head. But in the epilogue, I discovered it was a fictionalized real event. That made it even more meaningful to me. So, it is historical fiction (late 18th century), a love story, a bit of mystery. The main character, John-Baptiste, an engineer, was given the job of demolishing a very old cemetery in Paris. He designed the process and supervised the project. While Parisians weren't very happy about what happened to their families who were buried there, I couldn't help but think about the contrast with the kind of conflict a similar project caused in my city. Watching John-Baptiste grow and change made me feel quite close to him. Other characters weren't developed as much as his.
Supernatural eeriness was not part of this story. However, the weirdness of digging up thousands of bodies, (often no coffins or very flimsy ones) was enough.
This was a good story, a bit on the weird side, that was satisfying and provided a good look at 18th century Paris.
